[John McJunkin Subject: Alloy: TMDR Radio interview and the NYC exotic/erotic show I've just received notification of a radio interview with Thomas scheduled for this weekend: http://www.jjradio.com/ And our own dear Melissa has just kindly informed me of Thomas' return NYC gig at the Exotic Erotic Ball: http://www.ExoticEroticBall.com/ I was desperately sad to have missed him when he played Joe's Pub here. But now he's back (and with a vengeance!) I've got to start pinching my pennies even tighter (yikes!) and try to scrounge up some ticket and hotel money. geee.... I wonder if Thomas would get me into the show for free if I offered to be his onstage gimp? Though I'm sure I'm not the first one to offer him this. Ill have to wait in line behind all the other gimps. Back in the box with me, then, til Thomas calls... Thomas, if you're reading this, you know I'm the perfect gimp for you. Ignore all those others. That leash and leathers set has got my name on it! xx ~robin - --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Thanks, Robin! I wonder how he's surviving the Mancow experience in Chicago right now. Hopefully, Mancow is being good to TMDR. >>And our own dear Melissa has just kindly informed me of Thomas' return NYC gig at the Exotic Erotic Ball: http://www.ExoticEroticBall.com/... geee.... In truth, I'd imagine he's doing some version of his current set, but it's fun to come up with the "sexy set." What would you add? >>Thomas, if you're reading this, you know I'm the perfect gimp for you. Ignore all those others. That leash and leathers set has got my name on it!<< "Wake up the gimp..." When I read about this recently, I somehow got it in my head that TMDR had not been included. The press release included the names of some prominent Fairlight users, but Thomas was not among them, and I worried that he'd been overlooked. My buddy Jeff Harris was one of the two or three individuals that initially introduced the Fairlight in the US (and he used one extensively in the programming he did for Animotion's "Obsession,") and he and I occasionally reminisce about the product and its users. The short list almost invariably counts Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Art of Noise, and TMDR. I had thought to pass along word of this thing to Thomas, but alas, he was in on it all along, and thank goodness-- in my estimation, Thomas put the Fairlight on the map in 1984. They simply could not proceed without him! I wonder if he was allowed to choose the G in the top octave of the keyboard. I wonder how much the keyboard will go for in the auction. Something like this would be priceless to me! Very cool stuff. jm On May 15, 2006, at 7:40 PM, Melissa Jordan wrote: > > I posted this over on the forum, but since I know we have some > synth geeks here, I thought I'd offer this up directly to you, for > your enjoyment and edification: > > Back in April, there was a fundraising event for WITNESS, a > charity founded by Peter Gabriel, to bring attention to human > rights abuse around the world. Oh yes.. and you just know there'll be lots of guys in diapers who will be be more than willing to join in. Thomas' problem will most likely be in trying to keep them *off* the stage. Oh the nightmares! and Melissa, I can't think of any more songs for his potential song list, the ones you suggest are all perfect. xx ~robin - --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. I only remember parts of it. That E/E ball sounds like it would be a tentacular hoot. I attended a fetish fashion ball/fundraiser here in Hamilton once. Awesome bands playing at it. I keep wishing there'd be another one so I could get the Science Ninjas to play it. I've thought of that line for years, ever since I "discovered" that track on the Retrospectacle as well. It gives me the sense of a someone who seems to be "stuck in a rut" or close to a mid-life crisis with a routine that goes on and on with little or no change (Groundhog Day movie comes to mind here). "The trains running late" (coming back from work) "As you close the garden gate" & "Step throught the steel front doorframe" (finally arriving at home after a long day at work) "Dinner's in the microwave, sweetie" (that quick meal before ending the day from your significant other) I can truly relate to the above. Just about someone has been in that situation before or will be. Like getting that first real job. The newness wears off after a few weeks and the situation becomes routine not long after that. Yeah, there might be different tasks or different people or differnt departments or different places but all in all in the same thing. Same task. Same routine. Until you hit a certain age and look back on it all. In this case, it's 39. For others it's younger and others it's older. One last note, it's funny there's isn't a line about flopping into that easy chair and watching tv. Like what most of us do when they also come home from work. You could easily add more lines and expand it a little but the song still holds up.
