My lyrical memory failed me. Yeah, Colfax - the longest commercial street in America - still maintains its reputation in those areas, although the street as a whole has seen some improvements over the years. If streets were people, Colfax is that strange artsy person who you admire for their creativity and quirks, but wonder if they would take you into dangerous territory if you hung out with them too long. You know a street has character when it has a documentary, web site http://www.colfaxavenue.com/ and even a myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/colfaxavenue Despite the seedy nature of Colfax, it also has some of the best music venues in the city: The Ogden Theater, Denver Fillmore, Bluebird and the Lion's Lair - a little hole in the wall bar where I saw Robyn Hitchcock play. The area near the Bluebird is not as scary as the areas near the capital. - -Keith - -----Original Message----- From: owner-alloy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-alloy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of John McJunkin Sent: Saturday, April 29, 2006 11:10 AM To: alloy@smoe.org Subject: Re: Alloy: Colorado Tickets on sale now Keith, I think you probably meant "fistful of Colfax." Is the downtown part of Colfax (down by the capital) still the red-light district? When I lived in Arvada, that was one place we avoided! jm On Apr 28, 2006, at 10:37 AM, Keith Stansell wrote: > > Handful of Colfax... > > Hi Beth, > > I did see a notice of the show in the "on sale now" part of the > Bluebird's > ad in Westword this week. It was a great show. We tanked on one song though Things just sort of went horribly wrong and then everyone paniced but it all came back together in the end. Looking at these photos I realized two things. 1)my keyboard rig is ugly as hell and very lame compaired to Thomas's rig. Even having one of Thomas's old keyboards in my corner doesn't help make my rig look unlame. 2) Our man Thomas has done a much better job dodging the "best before" date than Mike Score has. Awesome show though and much much much fun had by all. My buddy Mitch has played guitar on some of Mike Score's solo stuff. I think the Score brothers were pretty good songwriters in their day! jm On Apr 30, 2006, at 11:12 AM, Crackers wrote: > > Well gang, here's the photos of our gig last night at the Corktown > opening for A Flock Of Seagulls (aka Mike Score because he's the > only original member still in the band). A week of crazed activity at my office this week (two huge grant deadlines, a massive black-tie event, a sea of international visitors), a friend flies in from Minnesota on Friday evening, and then we have three nights of TMDR. Wow! I think sleep is going to be minimal for the next few days or so. Did you dig the video that Mr. Dolby put up on his blog, explaining how he put The Flat Earth together at TED? As a technologically and musically limited individual, I found it fascinating.
