[Robyn Moore Subject: Alloy: March 9th. Well, as I'm in SF for IDF that week, I and a few other UK technology journalists will be along to the March the 9th gig. I also seem to have convinced a fair few of the Bay Area folk I know to make it along... I'll be the one from round the corner from where Thomas used to live in London... See you there. Technology has come a long ways since the first project B-Day. More people should be able to participate being able to create musical and birthday greeting contributions from their own desktop computers. Heck the first Project B Day was done on cassette because CD-Rs were still an expensive rarity in those days. Submissions will be able to be sent in via e-mail because of greater bandwidth and storage limits (a gmail account should do the trick). What say ye Alloy? I read in the Archives of Alloy how you guys used to do those "Project B-Day" tapes, and I was kind of wistful that I'd missed all that...well, now maybe I haven't, and there are other newbies around here as well--hi Cory!!! :^) Gosh, that all seemed like such fun--Thomas pretending not to know about the project, and saying that he'd pretend to be surprised when y'all would make the presentation...totally neat! :^) Welllll worth reviving, I'm sure!! :^) I guess I'll finally have to buy a microphone for the old 'puter, and sing a-capella, 'cause I sure as heck don't own a synthesizer now! ;^) Details, Sir Crackers, details please! :^) Love and singing scales, Kara! :^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > From: "Crackers" > Date: 2006/02/27 Mon AM 11:00:10 CST > To: "Alloy" > Subject: Alloy: Project B-Day > > > Speaking of Thomas Dolby covers, we should really look into restarting > Project B-Day. 'Course, if > there's anyone who knows about some TD karaoke, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I Googled "Thomas Dolby + karaoke", and some online places just have "She Blinded Me..." available, surprise surprise, and, uh, no thank you. ;^) Good thought, though, Corey! :^) But this other link came up, by coincidence, for this Keynote Transcript from 2001, the Keynote Speech of one Sean Maloney, then Executive Vice President of Intel. Has anyone else seen this? Thomas comes up on stage with Mr. Maloney about one-third of the way down the page, demonstrating a sort of karaoke thing whereby, using Beatnik software, you could strip the vocal track off of a song, because each track runs separately and simultaneously within the Beatnik software, or something really cool like that. Over my flat little head...no, not really, but I'm modest by nature. ;^) Love and great ideas galore, Kara [oke] ;^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > or is in Upper Michigan > and interested in forming a band for a little jamming for the CD, I'm all > game. > > Cory (aka. This is what I get for getting behind on my mail - only just read this today. Of course, I dashed right out to one of the local Ticketmaster outlets and picked up my ticket. Didn't have time to get to the venue itself and back before Brigid got home from school, but for Thomas I'll live with the service charge. ;) Unfortunately, I had a good reason for getting behind - my beloved cat of 17 years, Catalyst, died recently and I've been in mourning. :'( So thanks to Thomas for giving me something to look forward to. :) Robyn M At 08:36 AM 2/19/2006, you appeared to say: >This was just posted to the forum on TMDR's official site: > > Thomas Dolby > Aladdin Theater, Portland, OR > Thu, Apr 20, 2006 08:00 PM > 20.00 > on sale 2/20 > > Coolness.
