I can understand not bringing along uninvited guests when a guest yourself. Mutato in the afternoon and TMDR that night - how will you ever contain yourself. I'd gladly take you up on your offer for the late-night return trip. I've never been to LA so I welcome the opportunity to ride along with someone more familiar with the area. I've been floating around the area via Google Earth, but that's not quite like knowing the area. The problem is getting me from Anaheim to Hollywood. Even if you were to drop me off in front of Mutato, I'm not sure what I would do for the afternoon. I could walk around the half mile of the Sunset Strip between Mutato and HOB, but as the Missing Persons say "nobody walks in LA". So - for now I'll plan on getting a car unless I can link up with another Alloyer for some Friday afternoon pre-show tourist activities. - -Keith - ----- Original Message ----- From: "John McJunkin" To: Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2006 8:38 PM Subject: Re: Alloy: Hollywood bound > > I will also be at the Hollywood show, and my wife will be joining me for > the Anaheim show. Do you really need me to say that in Hollywood every road has a name like Beachwood Avenue? Seriously, hope you have a ball! Give the Gentleman a round of applause on behalf of those of us who couldn't get there. cheers, Paul. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jan 2006 22:02:49 -0600 From: Subject: Alloy: Just really "got" one of Thomas' song lyrics! :^) Yo, yo, YO!!! :^) This made me giggle. I was watching music videos earlier, and a video by Cameo came on--remember their lead singer (whose name I don't know), whom I presume is the "brother in the codpiece" immortalized in Thomas' version of "Hot Sauce"? Bright red "codpiece", too! ;^)Okay, I don't know whether it was Thomas himself who wrote these lines, or George Clinton, but anyway, it hit me what the line "I think he likes his ladies all sweet and sugary" may be in reference to: the name of the song was "Candy"!!!! :^) Yeah, yeah, I imagine you guys chatted about this years ago, but I had completely forgotten about "Candy"--I only remembered "Word Up". I laughed my butt off! Then I had to glue it back on... Yours in eternal silliness, Kara It's All About the Music. :^) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jan 2006 00:31:55 -0500 From: "Cory Stickel" Subject: Alloy: Re: Just "Got" One of Dolby's Lyrics. Good observation about "Hot Sauce." I had a little "revelation" of my own the other day after watching "Howard the Duck" over New Years. I remembered reading about how the Dolby company sued TD for using the name "Dolby's Cube" for the HtD songs (1986). A few days after watching HtD, I listened to "May the Cube be With You," (1988) and heard the line "I'm so very sorry, Constible, but what can I do when half the western world is turning on to Dolby's Cube?" I wonder if that was TD's little way of saying "Bite me" to the Dolby company re: the lawsuit. Really seems to fit when you see how he grins after that line in the music video for "Cube." :) Speaking of lyric interp.: anybody have any ideas about "Eastern Bloc?" After listening to it a couple of times, I'm starting to think if it's about how the singer has followed Europa's career no matter what she's been through ("Tune it out, tune it in... Down the years: thick, thin..."), hoping maybe she'll get back in touch with him, only to tune into the news one day to see that she was killed in some sort of uprising ("Now I fear the wind has changed," "Shine across, swipe that rescue beam... Are you receiving me?..."). Just my own thoughts. What does everybody else think?
