Apologies for the grievously delayed response (I was on vacation in the Tetons--sorry!) This is something we've all known since the word "go." These are the people who sued our dear Mr. Robertson years ago, and frankly, as much as I'd love to say I hate them for that, they have actually accomplished some very positive developments in the domain of recording. I could be wrong, but I would bet my last paycheck that Dolby Labs are the donors in this case. I'd LOVE to think that our dear TMDR were the philanthropist who dropped a cool 5 mil, however I'm afraid it's unlikely. Regardless of the huge chunks of mailbox money our wonderful hero may have received over the course of years, I'm guessing that $5M is a pretty tall order vis-a-vis a throw-away donation. I would never normally go urinating on anyone's parade, but I'm afraid this isn't what we all hoped it to be. Big love to ya all! I'm SO stoked about the January concert dates. Looking forward to meeting you all there (and you'll be there, regardless of the distance and/or hardships involved, for this live appearance is far too precious to miss--and you know it.) Big Love! I have never been to LA, but I think it would be a good excuse and the chance to meet up with old (online) friends for the first time. - -Keith in Denver - ----- Original Message ----- From: "John McJunkin" To: Sent: Saturday, August 13, 2005 12:51 AM Subject: Re: Alloy: Blinded me with funding > > I've internally debated whether to post this response, Crackers, but I'm > afraid that this $5M is from the "other" Thomas Dolby, he being the son > of Ray Dolby of Dolby Labs fame (and mind you that this pile- o-cash is > not his own--it comes from the company.)
