Hi Graham, Somewhere it was posted that Thomas had about ten new song ideas in his head. I don't think he would have mentioned that if he weren't going to act on it- even if the cd does take a coupla years in the making. The original post may possibly have come from Robyn, but I'm not sure. Could it all have been a dream...? - -Bill graham stuart wrote: > > Hi there > I just saw bill's email...what is this in reference to? > are there new recordings out there ? > have new recordings been previously mentioned here? > I guess i am behind. > Can anyone offer some insights? > > graham ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 May 2005 00:26:58 -0700 From: Patrick McMillan Subject: Re: Alloy: new recordings? I saved the post which originally appeared in the Onion's AV Club in March of this year. Here it is for all who missed it. Long live the king. Thomas had sent me a sample of a new song he was working on recently and it sounded really neat. A new album would definetly be fantastic news. I was doing a lot of work today in my attic workshop. Built myself an Ensoniq Mirage Coffee Table. http://www.ghastlycomic.com/mirage/mirage.html While I was working I had the CD player playing with a CD full of MP3s on it. Gotta love being able to work all day long without hearing any songs repeat and without having to change the CD in the player. I've got a whole directory of my Thomas Dolby albums on that CD so it's great to be able to listen to a lot of Thomas's songs while I'm working. I think one of my favorite songs recently is Leipzig. I kind of feel we got gyped a bit on the North American release of Wireless. While She Blinded Me With Science is a great hit Leipzig is a really good song. Thomas did such an amazing job of capturing the feeling of middle-aged ennui in it, pretty good considering he was just a young lad when he wrote it. I guess he went through his midlife crisis early on. It smiled weakly at me from its ICU cot in a wordless 'don't even think about it' kind of way... Sorry, would have if I could have! :-) Congrats to Dissident3 for winning the auction, tho', hopefully it was one of us! Paul. P.S. Robin dear sweet friend, sorry, I owe you an email from waaay back, shall make amends on the weekend. In the meantime, if I batted my eyelashes and asked really nicely would you add me to your LJ friends list? paulnojustpaul. Which is, btw, also my skype name. ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 May 2005 22:58:11 +1000 From: Paul Baily Subject: Alloy: While we're waiting... Hi all, I'm guessing that maybe like me, a few of you may be Blue Nile & Crowded House/Finn fans. Meant to forward these gems from the Icehouse list a while back. (thanks, Blue C!) Settle down in a nice quiet corner, put on some headphones, enjoy. The following are Real Audio (sorry about that) feeds from what sounds like quite a good radio station in the US. Blue C writes: Neil and Tim Finn playing the music that has inspired them : Audio : Video : and Paul Buchanan from The Blue Nile singing an acoustic set : [pb] This set has to be seen/heard to be believed. With just two acoustic guitars and Paul Buchanan's amazingly evocative voice, they do an awesome depiction of the Blue Nile at its best.[/pb] Audio : Video : cheers, Paul. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 May 2005 20:33:52 -0700 (PDT) From: Kelli Purple Subject: Re: Alloy: new CD? Crackers is right - Leipzig was a cracking song rarely mentioned - eclipsed though i belive by the atmospheric Therapy/Growth love them both. Just whilst we are dreaming of poss new tracks to come -- by coincidence I today got hold of a Bruce Woolley promotional biography issued by EPIC records prior to the release of the first Camera Club album - & although minor does give Thomas a mention - so whilst we are discussing poss new material is this Thomas first mention by a record label ????
