Greetings all. I used to be on this list several years ago, but unfortunately, other pursuits have made it difficult to keep up on the list. I've rejoined temporarily in order to hear your thoughts and recommendations on which PS CD to send to a foreign friend. He is a non-English speaker, but has a great love of folk and classic rock. He's also a brilliant musician who is actively looking for new music to expose himself to. To this end, I am compiling a care package for him of about 15 cds. The care package to date includes music I think he'll like, such as Colin Hay and Johnny Cash (who Roberto has never heard of but I know he'll like). It also includes a selection of Canadiana, such as Stompin Tom Connors and Kashtin. Last of all, I'm including some of the music *I* love, which of course includes prefab sprout. I'm having alot of trouble with it though, as he's a non-English speaker, and would likely be unable to appreciate most of PS' rather obscure and non-linear lyrics. Although Roberto's got a great talent and ear for music, particularly rhythm, I lack the ear to know which Prefab sprout is the most musically interesting. As far as a "Favorite" CD, I likewise have trouble picking one. Which PS album would you folks recommend as an introduction for a non-English speaker, and why? Best regards, Daniel Swan. Ps. If you're looking for something off the beaten path, check out his music: http://www.matatoa.com/sound/MATATOA_Manavai_2004_Track2.mp3 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Dec 2004 12:29:36 -0700 From: "Keith Stansell" Subject: Re: Alloy: Best PS Album to give a non-english speaking musician? Hi Daniel, Welcome back. Sorry I don't know about Prefab Sprout (this is the Thomas Dolby list, you might have been confused about your old subscribed lists). There might be some PS lovers on this list though that could help you our. Unfortunately this list has been pretty dead this past year or so. I guess everyone like myself have just been really busy. Good luck. - -Keith in Denver ----- Original Message ----- From: Daniel Swan To: alloy@smoe.org Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 2004 12:00 PM Subject: Alloy: Best PS Album to give a non-english speaking musician? Hi Keith, I remember your name from "back in the day". I seem to remember that there was a pretty huge Sprout fan-base on this list, problably due to Mr. Dolby's involvement with the band. Ironically, I first joined the list out of an appreciation for Mr. Dolby's work, however, eventually grew to be an even bigger fan of PS. It is unfortunate to hear the list has gone to see - But it was a great one in it's day, and I still have my "Flat Earth Society" Tee. (I don't suppose there's any left somewhere, are there - Mine's getting a bit tattered).
