A lot of sites disallow it entirely, and a few industrious ones make any remotely-linked image automatically redirect to an image saying "we hate remote linkers" or something else altogether ... a. I have "We love the subs" repeating in my head - thanks Paul. Sometimes it is "We love the blogs" I think that advertising works on some odd subconscious level - I've been going to Quizno's a lot lately - true. I think it is my addiction to their M&M cookies though. Perhaps this weekend I'll make a trip downtown to the very first Quizno's - sort of my sub Mecca pilgrimage. - -Keith - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Baily" To: Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 11:09 PM Subject: Alloy: [OT] Doing it for the Spongmonkeys! > > Hi all, > > Got a funny story for you. > > So let's say that you've had a fledgling blog going for a year or so > that gets read by one or two people (nono, /literally/ one or two > people, I'd get stage-fright if there were more!), and back when Robin > told us about Rather Good's We Like The Moon, you do a blog entry about > it, and put a screen grab of it in there for good measure. Yeh, I was in two minds about it since it's always good to Spread The Spongmonkey Word (the world needs more Spongmonkiness!) and it wasn't threatening to go over my bandwidth limit, but thought it was getting a bit beyond a joke: upwards of 40MB transferred a day just from that one image and increasing each day as more people on different forums started using it. One .htaccess file later and it's "Dude, where's my avatar?" :-) Then again, maybe I should have done something useful with it like a subliminal "Buy Lots Of Thomas Dolby Music" message in an animated gif... My favorite work, though, is arguably Joan Armatrading's Walk Under Ladders which also stars someone I'm proud to call a friend, Mr. Tony Levin. I'm so thrilled that I just gotta tell someone - I won a trip for 2 to Las Vegas to see Liz Phair next weekend! Woo hoo! If you think people don't actually win radio contests, think again. It has to be a good station since it has the same name as my best friend, Alice. Back to lurkdom, Mary ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V9 #23 **************************
