In my very groggy, just-woke-up kind of state I accidently appeare to have sent it to Alloy by mistake. =^_^= Good thing I didn't tell her to bring home batteries for the strap-on (The Dolby AZ-1 strap-on that is). As I recall, there weren't any teenage acts with videos back then. All were established musicians who'd made their names already, based on the strength of their music. The videos themselves were much more experimental in really avant-garde and sometimes surreal ways. I was talking to my two students (approx. 21 years old) about how I saw the very first broadcast of MTV, and I described some of the videos they were showing then. I tried to tell them about the Talking Heads one, in which David Byrne is dressed in a geeky suit with Buddy Holly specs, doing these weird chopping motions down his arm, or swooping around in this dance motion. The students looked at me like I had five heads.. needless to say, they did not remember it. I suppose compared to all the breasts and arses and cinematography that's come about, this video does sound weird. But it was *better*! The sight of Thomas adjusting his shirt in a Lene Lovitch video I have is emblazoned into my mind's eye. It makes me sad to think that these kids watching MTV today will never know the sexiness of the subtle onstage shift beneath conservative clothing. ~droooool~ xx ~robin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jan 2004 08:25:20 -0800 (PST) From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Re: Alloy: Pretend you're Thomas Dolby... or Crackers. Incidentally crackers (speaking of the keyboards) - have you attempted anything with the signature yet? or the duct tape residue? I thought I would give your friend's suggestion of nail polish remover a shot (I have masking tape residue on my keyboard.. I'd stuck a tape to mark middle C but now I don't need it there anymore, though the crud remains) The plastic around it dissolved, but the residue stuck like mad! Maybe it only works for duct tape residue? in any case i wanted to tell you about this just to bear in mind as a precautionary tale. It doesn't matter with my keyboard because it's just a little thing & I can polish the plastic back up again with micromesh. But on yours, which is valuable, the thought of something like this happening makes my hair stand on end. xx ~robin Yahoo! Nope, haven't done anything with either the residue or the autograph yet. I just figure it's "historic" tape residue right now. I was going to wait for further instructions from above (Canada). Way to go on the painting - not bad at all. You know crackers, we all love you tonnes as well. Alloy wouldn't be the same without you. For some reason, the subject of the thread conjured up images of a music genre that would include Kin 'n Play, MC Hammer and Criss Cross (Kriss Kross ?) Sort of a Rap's version of bubble gum pop. Only one day into the auction and already at $26. Converted to Canadian pecsos, that's more than I'd probably be able to sell the painting for at a local convention. I'd probably be able to make more money selling more graphic hentai stuff, but eBay appearently frowns upon that.
