(ot) Hello my favorite techies: I just got a Minidisc player, the new model from sony that is net md but also lets you record outside sounds. So I taped a Radiohead concert, sounds great on the player. but when I put the sonicstage software on the computer and attempted to put the sound file on the computer, I got a message saying that only music that came FROM the computer onto the minidisc player can go back on the computer!! but doesn't that render part of the possible functionality useless? Does anyone know how I can put the file on the computer digitally?? thanks guys! monya ____________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Oct 2003 18:55:56 -0500 From: "Bill Krzysko" Subject: RE: Alloy: netMD users? (ot) Yeah, this is a big problem with the MD players. The simple answer is, you can't make a digital transfer from your MD player to your computer. The most economical way for you to make a digital transfer would be to get MD deck that is designed for use with a home stereo system. Many of these have SPIF digital outputs. Now, you computer must have SPIF inputs to be able transfer from this. You can find used decks on EBay for around $100. Some players, like the HHB Portadisc let you transfer digitally over USB, but they cost over $1000. Here is a link that discusses some of the issues with using minidiscs for live recording. http://www.transom.org/tools/recording_interviewing/200306.minidisc.html Also, check out www.minidisc.org Now, having said all that, I transfer recordings I make with my minidisc to my computer by hooking up a patch cord to the output of the minidisc to the line in on the computer, and I really can't tell any difference in the quality of the finished product. So, I would try it this way first before you spend any money on something you might not need. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-alloy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-alloy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Monya De Sent: Saturday, October 11, 2003 5:58 PM To: alloy@smoe.org Subject: Alloy: netMD users?
