I feel strongly that artists should resist the urge to cash in on their hits for the sake of commercial gain (I know that sounds naive and stupid) but for pete's sake, last night I heard Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Oh, Susie Q" turned into an ad for "Oh, Barbecue" . . . where will the madness stop??? - -Tom check out my free mp3's and my CD "Another Meaningless Crisis" before I turn it into an IHOP jingle: "http://www.emeraldsoul.com" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Aug 2003 17:58:54 +0100 From: PRAEst76 Subject: Re: Alloy: Re: dvd and . . . esoul sed: > Who needs a dvd when we can all just enjoy the Pantene commercial?!? Never seen Dolby on a Pantene commercial. I'm guessing this is an ad only shown in the US? Give a thought to the poor souls in the Uk & Ireland who don't watch commercial television. > I'm with Robin, I have yet to get a dvd player as such, but my computer has > one so now all I need is a $2000 monitor and I'm all set. ???? I paid #35 for my monitor and it was fine but I upgraded to a DVD decoder card & TV out cable that cost be another #20 in total. Watching DVds on a computer is an uncomfortalbe experiance. I can also watch many other forms of movie file on my TV now too. AVI's, MPEGs, DIVX etc. > I feel strongly that artists should resist the urge to cash in on their hits > for the sake of commercial gain (I know that sounds naive and stupid) but > for pete's sake, last night I heard Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Oh, > Susie Q" turned into an ad for "Oh, Barbecue" . . . > where will the madness stop??? It'll end in tears. Probably when the pantene gets in someones eyes and they end up putting this Dolby collection on Ebay in protest. - -- PRAEst76 http://www.cancellation.freeserve.co.uk/praest76/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Aug 2003 23:45:41 EDT From: Bluemeitz@cs.com Subject: Alloy: Dolby DVD I am in favor of a definitive music dvd that covers the entire music video, plus extras, of Thomas Dolby. I am not sure who holds the rights to the videos, some say Pioneer but maybe it could be Capitol or EMI, but someone could finally a collection that does summarizes Thomas Dolby's career. Mr. Dolby, if you are reading this and the opinions of other alloy members, could you look into the possibility of releasing a music dvd and inform all of us here in alloy land wheather you can optain the rights or buy the rights of your videos and other material for dvd or even vcd release. Mr. Dolby, other groups like ABBA, David Bowie, Big Country - for example, have all recently released a comprehensive dvd that collected all of their music videos. Some like ABBA and Bowie have included extras and alternative versions of their videos. Recently, Duran Duran is going to release a comprehensive music dvd, much like their VHS version of "Greatest" but with lots of alternative takes and extras, to the public in Sept. '03. Is there a possibility you could arrange talks with one of your former record companies to promote such a compilation. Maybe you could tie this release, or other releases, with the release of new material, a box set, or a rarity collection in the not so distant future. Any input from you would greatly appreciated from all of your fans but especially here at alloy. (Alloy fan response from the release of "40" and the Submarine remix single exceeded expectations and even got a response from you personally, if I recall) Thomas, your response to this dvd discussion would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks, Walter ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V8 #127 ***************************
