I wonder how much control Thomas has over such a project. I guess Pioneer Artists has the rights to the material since they put out the original laserdiscs. If you look at their web site, they are putting out quite a bit of their back catalog on DVD http://www.pioneer-ent.com/pea/dvd-music-pioneer-artists.html I bet if anything though, they wouldn't add extras or enhance the quality over the original laserdisc. Probably would still have a lot of the tracks in mono as well. I've seen DVD's put out by artist who had much less video influence than Thomas, so I can't imagine he's not popular enough to have a DVD release. I just recently saw a DVD by Love and Rockets. I think Thomas was a much more popular artist than they were at the same time. So if they can have a DVD, why can't he. - -Keith - ----- Original Message ----- From: "graham" To: Sent: Thursday, August 07, 2003 6:29 PM Subject: Alloy: dvd > > I'd love to know what others think > > Why doesn't Thomas put out a DVD of his videos, Live Wireless, and 40 > throw in some cool interviews, in studio, demos, camera club work etc > Having seen the quality of the zeppelin dvd i wish others would follow suit > hey wouldnt it be cool to seethe grammy show again with howard and stevie > your thoughts > > i am a sucker for behind the scenes in the studio stuff > > graham ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 16:25:55 +1000 From: Paul Baily Subject: Re: Alloy: dvd > So if they can have a DVD, > why can't he. thug 2: yeah! I'd prefer these as a few separate DVDS. I'd prefer the forty stuff kept apart from the Live wireless stuff. Different eras. It'll end up looking like a best of thing. But yes, there is no reason I can see not to. As has been pointed out less popular artists get DVDs along with shit artists. As long as the opportunity isn't wasted and it isn't put out in some half-assed fashion. I'm not sure I'd buy it if i thought reasonable effort hadn't been put in for the fans. - -- PRAEst76 http://www.cancellation.freeserve.co.uk/praest76/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 06:16:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Re: Alloy: dvd It would certainly be the final push toward my actually getting a DVD player. Like Keith pointed out, I wonder what kind of creative control could be had by the artist in a situation like this. I can imagine it wouldn't be easy if licenses for Thomas' creative output are held by all sorts of different companies. xx ~r Yahoo! Each video should be uncut and selectable from the menu. Also, the inclusion of the Astronauts and Heretics era videos is a must. A DVD of "Live Wireless" could include a short documentary on the making of the film, plus any extra "bonus" footage that was left out of the final cut. Director's commentary track, you ask? You bet, why not? :) BC ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 19:09:50 -0400 From: "Crackers" Subject: Re: Alloy: dvd - ----- Original Message ----- From: "graham" > I'd love to know what others think I'd buy a DVD box set of all Thomas's videos maybe with some interview footage thrown in like the buyingest person in the world on the buyingest day of his life with an automatic buy machine.
