As you can see, they are not exactly the "best" new wave hits either, but a few gems stuck in there. I for some reason thought they were from Canada, but looks like they are from The Netherlands. The DVD's are region free If you have the Golden Age of Video laserdisc, I wouldn't bother getting these, the sound is mono and the video quality isn't really that much of an improvement. - -Keith Details: Best of New Wave - Original Hits & Video Clips It is released by Disky Communications Europe. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006ADDN/qid=1058277749/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/104-7140676-6573531?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846#product-details Here is a review of the first one: Reviewer: An Amazon.com Customer from Las Vegas, NV USA 18 videos in all. Folks, ..because it's unlikely that she exists. See the following for details: http://www.snopes2.com/inboxer/children/penny.htm Most notably, the e-mail was first spotted in September 2001. Some warning signs: - - No media report is cited. A local newspaper would at least have been aware of it. - - No actual location of where she was last seen is cited. - - "Two weeks ago" - no specific date cited. This particular message said "two weeks ago" a year and a half ago, as it turns out. - - "Send it to everyone you know!"...so that an e-mail with a snowballed list of working email addresses eventually makes it to a spammer. This is a really good harvesting tool. No recrimination here, of course - it's hard to step back from an immediate sympathetic reaction to this sort of appeal if it's the first time you've seen it. I'm jaded and cynical enough to check Google first whenever this kind of thing makes the rounds (and I've been hit by news about poor Penny a few times.) Now to get back on topic: Thomas, didja notice Bruce's e-mail there? How's about a little theramin on the new record? - -Sean Carolan Altrok.com > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Bruce Woolley ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2003 16:13:34 +0100 From: PRAEst76 Subject: Re: Alloy: Fw: This little girl is missing please look at the picture. p.latham2 sed: I found her! http://antivirus.about.com/library/hoaxes/blpenny.htm - -- PRAEst76 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2003 16:24:04 +0100 From: PRAEst76 Subject: Re: Alloy: Penny Brown Is Really Among The Missing... hubcity sed: > ..because it's unlikely that she exists. Well the little girl in the photo exists I'm sure. I wish she'd come out and tell everyone she's ok, or that's she tired of seeing these emails about her or something. I'd say at least some of these start of legitimately but they go around for ages and ages and frankly they discredit any legitimate mails by desparate parents looking children. Personally I'm so clinical that I delete any emails like this people send to me. Virtually anything that asks me to forward it. I especially don't like anything that smells of emotional manipulation. Perhaps I'm commending small children to death but I'm probably doing that anyway by buying cheap shoes or something. This girl is missing though still: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/3067517.stm > Now to get back on topic: Thomas, didja notice Bruce's e-mail there? Folks, A casual link to a Snopes article is often an invitation to more network time- wasting than I really should devote time to, but this time, I went to the Snopes missing/sick children page, and... ..some of them are true. Now, not all of them require direct intervention, but there are a couple of heartbreaking stories (car accidents, abductions by estranged parents, etc.) that the Snopes site has verified, for which ongoing efforts continue to try to bring relief. Happily, some of the items are also marked "not any more" - whether it was due to the Internet population's assistance or not, some of these stories do have happy endings. (The frustrating part is that those with happy endings don't necessarily put an end to the mail telling the world about the crisis, so I guess the real message here is, "check your sources".) So I guess I'm not as jaded and cynical as I thought. - -Sean Carolan Altrok.com ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V8 #117 ***************************
