On another point = i got home from work the other morning about 2-30am - (another nice set of shifts) turned on ITV 1 & there was Thomas - only for approx 2 mins a very old clip of an interview with Hyperactive video being played on part of the screen - it was part of a series talking about 80's music .It was a very quick clip - but great timing by myself . I got a nice little present from a bandmate not long ago. The Dolby's Cube 45. Unfortunately the law of vinyl applies. The amount of scratches on a record will be directly proportional to your desire to listen to the songs that are on it. It is saddly unplayable and alas I have never heard the song Googooplexus. Is the version of May The Cube Be With You on this the same as the version that's on AAMB? So I'm out at Walmart the other day. The one thing I love about Walmart is they have a section of absolute Dirt Cheap DVDs some of which are really cool! Things like Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies and other assorted Kung-Fu flicks, old westerns and sci-fi movies like Logan's Run all under $10 Canadian. Well Walking through the cheapy DVD section what do I spy but a DVD called "GREATEST MUSIC VIDEOS OF THE 80s! (Vol. 1)" Woo, freaking hoo! Here's something I've got to buy. I mean, it's worth it for Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science" and "Hyperactive" alone, not to mention A-Ha's "Take On Me" and the Eurythmic's "Sweet Dreams" and all the other greatest music videos of the 80s. So I snatched up the DVD and turned it over to discover that appearently "greatest" is for more subjective a term than I had originally thought. Not only were half the videos listen on the back of the DVD songs and bands I had never even heard of, but the ones on the back from bands I was familiar with would be, if albums were cubes, their F-side songs. If this was the stuff they considered worthy of Volume One then I dread seeing what they consider Volume Two matterial. Any music compilation that uses the words "Greatest" and "Eighties" together in the title that does not include "She Blinded Me With Science" should be deemed false advertising and punishable by law. Unless, of course, if the title is "Bands From The 80s With The Greatest Suck Factor" in which case if Duran Duran arn't included the same rule should apply (I kid! I kid! Hey, they've been a great sport. How 'bout giving them a big hand folks? You're alright.). Needless to say the DVD wasn't purchased. Say... when will we see a boxed set DVD of all Thomas's videos and maybe some interviews and other assorted video tidbits (Did anyone have a video camera going during the threesome with Madonna and Cindy Lauper... or wait... can you even videotape dreams?). Maybe somebody can dig up security camera footage of a young Thomas busking in the Paris subway. I came across a couple of "greatest new wave hits" DVD's in Sam Goody once that included "She Blinded Me With Science" on one disc and "Hyperactive" on the other. They ran around $14.00 (USD) each. I can't remember the other tracks - I think one had a live version of Come On Eileen. The DVD's said they were "remastered in 5.1 surround sound" and the discs did include 5.1 dolby digital (no relation) but the two Thomas Dolby songs turned out to be mono audio remastered to dolby digital 5.1 mono audio. A little investigation of my old Golden Age of Video laserdisc revealed that the audio for those songs are mono on there as well. I don't remember who put out the DVD's, but I seem to remember they were "imports" from Canada. I'll look at them tonight and see if I can post a link to them online. - -Keith - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Crackers" To: Sent: Monday, July 14, 2003 11:45 AM Subject: Alloy: I Call Shinanigans! > > So I'm out at Walmart the other day.
