I think they were I Love You Goodbye and Close (I think), and they're pretty cool. They were ones where you buy the box and the first CD and then you have to wait a month or something to get the second CD in plain plastic wrap, which then slots into the box. They have remixes and stuff on there as well but no new songs (which was a bit disappointing at the time!). Anyway, if someone has a gap in their collection for these let me know - I'd rather they went to a completist Dolbyite where they'll be treasured than sit around in my cupboard unloved (not that I don't love them but you know...) I don't really need any money for them but just to cover the postage. One more thing totally off-topic so I'll keep it short - I've finally managed to land a UK tour with music! I'm playing bass and managing the band for Kezi (sister of Alicia) Silverstone and we are touring in support of - get this - Matt Goss. You may remember him from Bros!! Anyway, we get to play Shepherd's Bush Empire, Birmingham and Bristol Academy etc and I filled the band with my guys so it should be a laugh! Anyway, best wishes to all on the Flat Earth, Tim ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jul 2003 06:42:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Re: Alloy: RE: alloy-digest V8 #109 Tim, nice to hear from you. For a second there I read that one sentance as "I'm playing bass and the managing band nazi". "Ve have vays ov makink you play ze right key!" Good stuff on the band front. If you ever tour Canada and need a band to open for you "Big Fake Heart Attack" (the rebirth of "I Love My Shih'Tzu") is ready to leap to the cause. Same goes for you Thomas *when* you tour Canada. I'm afraid I don't really have that much... Although I'm very happy with my 'complete CD-collection'. That is the normal ones on CD: Golden Age, Flat Earth, Aliens, Astronauts, Mind's Eye and Retrospectacle. Plus 4 'rarities': - 12 * 12 remixes - Forty - Close but no cigar CD-single -see below- - Submarines EP-CD, signed #011 -as posted before- Being far from complete I think I would not be first in line to accept Tims wonderful offer of two boxed CD single sets from Astronauts. Is my CD-single in it? It has a sleeve that says: 'Limited Edition Thomas Dolby Collection, Part One of a Two CD set'. (I might scan it and put it somewhere on my webpages... that need redoing, maybe some day this year... Do I start to sound like Thomas?) Jon mentions "the elusive cigar-box promo", I guess that's another thing. I really like the more of an 'a capella' version of Close but no Cigar on my single. Then there is a fifth rarity-CD that I construed myself. The playlist is now on my Alloy page (as is the CD-single sleeve...) I more or less reconstructed the interview. It was my first encounter with Internet-radio, and somehow my RealPlayer didn't stop switching back to low bit-rates, as low as 12 kbps. So the sound is somewhat distorted (weeks later I got an 'autoreconfiguration-splash-screen' from my RealPlayer Basic 8 and mostly BBC-internet-radio is fine now at 44 kbps or so...) By reconstructing I mean: I took the interviews from the INternet-broadcast, and the music tracks are from MP3 or CD. Altogether I think the interview-CD might still be a thing 'nice to have' for real Dolby-ites who want to have 'everything'. Feel free to mail me off-list for a copy. I would be glad to swap with some 'rare versions' of anything. Is there anywhere an overview of these on one of your fan-pages? I think I heard of an Orleans-version of I love You Goodbye. And then there is of course the Alloy 40 and 41 (?) happy birthday CD's. I think I heard some of it on low-bitrate RealAudio... And last: if any is interested, I think I have the first three LP's on vinyl, and some 45 RPM 12"'s... Mail me off-list if you're interested.
