I'm very sorry to hear of your ferret's passing.. As you know I had a ferret a few years ago and know how much personality they have and how much pleasure they give to the people caring for them. I know your loss is deep.. and I hope that your new little ferret will help you recover a little faster. It was fun to read about your.. Keith's and Cracker's latest paths.. so I guess I'll try to give an update too.. since I have been more lurker than participant lately. I've been fairly busy for the past few months. I worked on a feature film last fall that was a bit of a nightmare for me.. long hours and low pay.. and all for a producer/director that turned out to have much less class than I'd hoped. Those of us giving our blood, sweat and tears to get the extremely difficult job done didn't get much appreciation after the fact. Even if I'm broke.. I will choose not to work with him again. The film actually doesn't look too bad though. It's a fairly stupid martial arts film with a Latino twist. The title right now is "Latin Dragon".. so if it comes to a theater near you.. avoid it! Unless you like to laugh at cheap stunts and wooden acting. Actually.. the lead actor is the wooden one.. we had Gary Busey and Lorenzo Lamas in the film and they did okay. And there were a couple of other Latino actors that were very good.. so there were a few moments worth seeing. Following the feature I made a quick trip to Orlando in December to do some commercials for a well known paint company. The highlight of the shoot was putting together a jam band to play a hastily written reggae tune.. "Ben Jamin' Moore" It was fun.. and we caught it on tape for historical embarrassment! Fortunately.. the work brought in some extra money to provide for a much needed vacation.. so I visited my folks in Seattle for Christmas.. then went to New York to meet a friend.. and she and I went to Cambridge (England) to visit her family for the New Year.. then took a quick trip to Paris for a few days too. It was freezing cold.. but Paris is always a great place to visit. While in England I was able to see some friends in London too.. which was great! My apologies to any Alloy folks that I didn't get to meet up. It was a full trip as it was.. and I didn't really have much chance to add on more things to do. We managed to get up to see York too.. which was very cool. So.. back home since mid January.. and in response to a personal agenda to live courageously.. I also worked up the nerve to get back onstage after 14 years. I played 3 songs at a singer/songwriter club here in LA. It was painful.. since my accoustic guitar pickup didn't work the way it should have and the sound system made it so I couldn't hear my voice at all. It was torture.. but I didn't give up.. and played all three.. then quickly scurried off the stage before anyone could throw any old tomatoes. But at least I got the first night out of the way.. now I just have to get a new pickup installed and keep rehearsing. I am trying to get my pro tools system back up and running.. but I'm sometimes computer challenged.. so I haven't managed to get it going yet. Meanwhile.. things were slow for work.. so I threw a party to meet up with friends and see if anything might turn up. I was shaking the trees again for a new project when one kind of dropped into my lap. Another feature.. this one is a horror film. It's coming along.. and may even turn out to be a rather grisly cult type fave. It's gory but has some intelligence to it as well. The writer / director is very intelligent.. so it may be a good film. It has me working 12 hour days.. which tends to be draining after a week. But it is nice to actually have weekends off instead of doing 6 day weeks. No one famous is cast yet.. but we may still get someone.. since we're still casting. I'll let you know. Okay.. gotta go.. sleep beckons. I hope that you all recover from the winter.. especially you in the Denver area! That was quite a snowdump! And glad to hear you made it through the bitter cold without catching one yourself.. Crackers! Stay warm up there!! I'm looking forward to this weekend.. should get into the 80s! Sometimes living in LA has it's advantages!! Ciao for now.. all.. and please send in your latest adventures for us all to share!! We must take that act here into London for sure. I have recently been involved in creating "The London Music Awards" which happens on march 30th at 7pm (est) and will be aired live to the internet at http://www.clubphoenixlondon.com I birthed the concept and had a radio station, then our local magazine and then our local TV station pick it up. Together we expect hundreds to attend (800 capacity club) and thousands to view it online. I am now the producer of the show and will be the hidden guy with the headset, shoutin out timing plans to the stage hands and such, while watching from way off stage. WOW! We have 6 local (GREAT) bands playing the ceremony and then over 18 presenters that are very knowledgable in their genre/field to tell it as they see it. After the ceremony we are holding an after party to feature 3 other bands in mini-sets to showcase and to entertain the folks there. All this has been brought together on a shoestring (read: $0 ) budget. I am very proud and excited and pre-exausted for next week ;) Otherwise, I am playing drums with 2 bands... "The Deville Brothers" (blues/soul/rock & roll) and "The Wild Turkeys" (country/blues/swing) and am having a blast. Peace all, sorry for not contributing as much these days but rest assured that I am still here for all things Dolby and will still be contributing when I can or need to. much love to you all, Iam Ian Gifford Producer/Co-Creator of the London Music Awards Singer/Songwriter http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/187/ian_gifford.html http://www.rootsmusiccanada.com Radio show host("For The Folk") On-air Alternating Wednesday Evenings 8:30pm to 10:00pm (est)available in Real Audio and Media Player at http://www.chrwradio.com _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2003 07:02:15 -0800 (PST) From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Re: Alloy: (OT) checking in Crackers, I'm glad to hear your health problems are being handled effectively. Scary what can go on without you even knowing. I personally have just found out that the artificial sweetener I've been using for the past five years (aspartame) actually has a chemical component in it that turns into formaldehyde when ingested, leading to all sorts of horrific problems. Mostly MS-like symptoms as well as abdominal and joint pains, heightened anxiety, and tiny little holes forming in the brain matter leading to the development of tumors. Suffice it to say that my formaldehyde drinking days are over. From now on, my coffee will be like me - strong, pale, and bitter. Mmm! Mark, I'm so glad to hear you're working on a horror flick. You must tell me all about it & if you need anyone to play the dead body, have their people call my people. It's always been a dream of mine to be a pretend corpse in a horror flick. It sounds like everyone's been having loads of stuff going on since last we checked in, interesting adventures to tell. How are our friends in UK, Europe, South America, Australia...? xx ~robin Yahoo!
