Anyhow, just thought I'd share my views on some TD work I finally experienced last week. I had been looking out for that animated dinosaur movie "We're back" thing for ages - in the weeks before Christmas I finally found it for sale in a local shop! Naturally I snapped it up, and decided it would make a good present for Emily (5). She was very pleased with it, but it took quite a while before we had the time clear to watch it. She was very eager to see it, and with Saturday night primetime TV being so dismal in the UK, we finally got round to watching it. I even fired up the 'surround' sound amp, which is impressive enough for stereo but the bass has never been very evident in this house (must be a weird accoustics thing) and the surround effects have never impressed me much from my speaker placements but it's one big step better than just the telly on it's own. Up came the Speilberg name, and one Thomas Dolby, and I was ready to be entertained. Unfortunately the plot was poor, the action plodded on a bit, the characters not especially lovable. The myopic museum curator seemed utterly redundant, and the whole T-Rex - -playing-golf thing seemed like an odd loose end that didn't fit in well either. The Wife and I were not overly impressed, I must admit. Emily seemed to enjoy it a bit, but not as much as typical Disney stuff. Yes, it had several very funny moments, but just didn't all come together somehow. Emily found the evil circus stuff a bit scary. Yet another big character with Mr Goodman's voice was a bit much for me to take, and it was also weird to hear Lisa Simpson's voice coming from a different little girl too! The TD song Roll Back the Rock (or whatever) suited the film, but I can't say it was in the same league as the excellent Ferngully work. Overall, I'd give it 6/10, what do you think if you've seen the film? One review at Amazon says "Speilberg mangles and tangles the original book into an ugly, uninspired trash movie. Not only is the premise ridiculous, the movie's general look is so sinister, you wonder why this is a kid's movie. Some books deserve to be left alone." ! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6303610781?vi=glance if you still want to look for this - it shows what the cover looks like. BTW thanks Crackers for that orgasm ringtone posting, it was so good I forwarded it on to my mates. Nice one! Ringtones? Pah! My phone just brrr brrrs like a phone should. I'd be embarassed to have music or sound effects. When you hear them go off in public the general consensus seems to be "what a prat"! On a more positive note, .... .... nope, can't think of anything. BTW (II) I found "My goal, when I started, was to create a sort of oscillating, undulating, ovulating sort of thing" at http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/frankstar/ if anyone's interested or perplexed by that. Good grief, I just noticed I haven't updated my TD website for a year and a half. You may relax then Thomas, I'm not quite the obsessive you feared I was, LOL. Just a miserable b'st'd today :o) HNY +AndyJ+ P.S. Very off topic, but the site http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/advanced.html is great for finding anagrams of people's names. I entered the name of my manager, and it came up with WALLET CREAKS which gave everyone here a damn good laugh! THOMAS DOLBY (more on topic, I suppose) gave BLOODY MATHS BALD SMOOTHY SMOOTHLY BAD THURLOWROBIN gave WILBUR HORTON, a good 2nd ID! (or LOW THROB RUIN, NOB WHIRL TOUR, WORTH LOIN RUB!) My own name is WE'VE BANAL NERDS, so there must be something in it, haha. And ANAL WEBS VENDER, some NASAL DWEEB stuff... Unfortunately, the best for Chris Cracknell was a nice alter ego of Sir Clark Clench. Amongst us Alloyites we also have a ROOMY BONER, RANDOM JUNK, a BEER THYME, an ILL RUNS SMELLIER, a CANNIBAL TORY/BORN ANALYTIC/TRIBAL CANYON /CAN ABLY INTRO, a DOGS CHOIR, a LABIAL YUP, and a TAKETH ILLNESS/HATLESS TINKLE /THINS SKELETAL/SELL SHAKEN TIT/LETHAL SINK SET/ ALL THEE STINKS/HE KNELT TIL ASS etc. (good one Keith!) Have fun with it! - -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Meet Singles http://corp.mail.com/lavalife ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 11:36:33 -0700 From: "Keith Stansell" Subject: Re: Alloy: HNY/ We're Back / Anagrams That's pretty cool Andy.
