Hi all you techies, Do any of you know a file sharing program that will evade a campus firewall? I haven't tried too many yet but I figured I would ask first. I'm not sure if limewire isn't working because my version is old or because of the firewall. monya ____________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: 17 Sep 2002 08:33:39 -0000 From: "Daniel Swan" Subject: Re: Alloy: file sharing ? I've found that most current file sharing progs are pretty clever at getting through a firewall. I suspect that if everything else fails, they just use http. ............................................................................. If you're going through Stanford, I believe they don't block any file-sharing programs at this point, according to their website. Of course, the page I am referring to (http://www.stanford.edu/group/itss-ccs/security/policies/mp3.html) hasn't been updated since 2000, so their policies could have changed. I am at Southern Methodist University in Texas, and everything is blocked: Gnutella, Kazaa, Limewire, etc. Andrea. However, you might be right about the dateline when I come to think of it as it was indeed part of the Flat Earth Tour. This begs another question though...Did Thomas write Jungleline or was this not originally a Joni Mitchel song or something? I was suprised myself. I'm not a big Joni Mitchell fan but her original version also kicks ass. I tend to check out the original of anything I find is a cover. I think that is kinda the cover artists intention. - -- PRAEst76 http://www.cancellation.freeserve.co.uk/praest76/ np: Pink Floyd - Pigs (three different ones) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 23:27:52 +0100 From: Subject: Alloy: Re: Totally OTT - Magpies Robin, I'm always nice to magpies, but not because I think they may pick me out for attack later if I'm not. Since moving house a little over two years ago I've been putting food out for the birds every day to encourage them into the garden. It started out as an amateur affair, but my daughter bought me a bird table for my birthday last year, and a bird bath this year (what do you buy for your dad when there's nothing he really needs except a lottery win? Now you know). We get a lot of sparrows and finches, some Bluetits and Coaltits, quite a few pigeons that hang around under the seed feeder to hoover up anything the sparrows and finches drop (which is quite a lot, they're messy eaters), thrushes, swifts, and magpies almost every day. The magpies like to take a drink from the bird bath and also often remove moss from the garage roof, presumably for nest making. And we also get grey squirrels after the peanuts we put out for the birds. I like to see them, and don't begrudge them the nuts, but you have to get a metal feeder that they can't destroy. They often hang from the bird table by one food to get at the nuts in the feeder, but they have to break them into small pieces to get them out. I put whole nuts out for the squirrels sometimes, but the little buggers bury a lot of them in the 'lawn' during the winter. It's fun to watch them, as they're very industrious, but just as well it's not a great lawn to begin with or I'd be displeased with them.
