It's also on 12 (!) other times this week. The following are all NY times (sorry)....... Tuesday - 6pm Wednesday - 11am, 4pm, 12am Friday - 1:30pm, 6:30pm, 8:30pm Saturday - 7:30 pm, 12:00am Sunday - 2:30pm, 11:30pm I guess it's a mixed compliment to be featured on a show with this title... But they did contact me to ask permission to use "Urges" and "Screen Kiss" too, so I guess they're planning to mention a couple of my not-so-greatest hits as well. Best, Thomas ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Aug 2002 22:19:44 -0400 From: Russell Milliner Subject: Re: Alloy: VH-1 One of the best summary interviews I've seen in a while (not including the misconception of being born in Cairo, Egypt!). They still cant get that one right. I guess it still adds to the character that is "Thomas Dolby". I just so happened to get home, check my email right at 10pm EST, and catch the few minute clip. I plan to digitally record it next time around, since there are some great pics and clips I havent seen before. Sometimes I wonder how fascinating it would be to have access to the massive archives of media clips they (VH1/MTV) have. And heck they even mentioned the "Fourty" album, which I believe the autographed version is probably sold out by now. Thanks for the tip Thomas...Hope to hear from you again (musically?) soon, - -Russell http://www.tmdrfan.com/ Thomas Dolby Robertson wrote: >Hi folks, > >Just wanted to let you know that there's a VH-1 "One Hit Wonders" segment >featuring yours truly that's premiering tonight >(Monday 5th August) at 10 PM (new york time) on VH1. > >It's also on 12 (!) other times this week. Timing is everything. I just checked my e-mail at 9:58, turned on VH-1, and - voila! Thomas was first up. Not too bad a segment for one of these shows (although William Shatner is getting pretty scary looking these days...) :-) It was nice to hear tunes other than "Science" in the background. Thanks for the heads up, Thomas! - - Melissa (and if you want to see something really profoundly disturbing with William Shatner in it, go here: http://www.scifi.com/frightnight/movies/rubyred.mov) - -- Melissa R. My TiVo would have recorded it automatically if they used the name "Dolby" in the show description, but it just said "New Wave Bands". - -Keith - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Merujo" To: Sent: Monday, August 05, 2002 8:17 PM Subject: Re: Alloy: VH-1 > > Thomas Dolby Robertson wrote: > > > Hi folks, > > > > Just wanted to let you know that there's a VH-1 "One Hit Wonders" segment > > featuring yours truly that's premiering tonight > > (Monday 5th August) at 10 PM (new york time) on VH1. > > Timing is everything. The Shawshank Redemption ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Aug 2002 22:58:56 EDT From: Bluemeitz@cs.com Subject: Alloy: dolby on VH1 Hi, I havent found any new Dolby "sightings" lately nor have I found anything to respond to lately to the daily alloy messages. I have kept up with them and really loved those thoughtful insights from all you alloy members out there. Many thanks for making my day at times.... But while surfing the tv channels this late monday night, I just happen to stumble upon Vh1 newest program "one hit wonders". Some time ago there was a countdown, where i recall Dolby made the list with "Science" - and several alloy people caught this, which lead to a weekly series of one hit wonders of different genres of the rock era with a brief history of the artist or group since then. This week focus upon a few of those one hit wonder new wave acts of the early 80's. It was nice to see the focus on Tommy Tutone, Bow Wow Wow, A Flock of Seagulls, one of my personal favs, and to my surprise leading the program off was Mr. Dolby himself. I was stunned. Wow! Mr. Dolby speaks about his lone hit and his re-interest to make music again. The little bit of filler since his breakthrough in '83 was a nice touch as well. It was also mentioned that further details are on the vh1 web site. It was great watching this... Did anyone else see this as well? Any reactions or comments? Walt ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Aug 2002 23:12:58 EDT From: Bluemeitz@cs.com Subject: Alloy: dolby rare cuts Hi, I have read that a few die hard dolby fans out there are scooping up rare 45's, lp's, ep's, and whatever other format that contains those hard to find dolby tracks such as Wreak of the Fairchild and Fieldwork. Just to let every one know these tracks, plus a quite a number of other tracks, were all on napster a few years back. To my surprise, I downloaded a few and bro downloaded a few and after swapping our find he burned a couple a disks containing our treasure. Even tho napster has come and gone, boo hoo, I still think those tracks might be available on those other music swapping sites. I know dolby might not aprove of this, but then again a lot of people didnt see any harm in swapping every thing under the sun either. I felt it was there for the taking and took advantage of it. (I've still bought a few dolby items on ebay myself - a copy is cool to have but the original is better. Trust me, if Dolby or someone ever release a cd of these rare tracks - I'd be happy to buy it as well. Maybe even parting with my boot.) Has anyone seen any dolby tracks on any music swapping web sites lately? If so, anything good? It might save some time for some die hard fans out there. To finally hear those rare cuts while the original master lays in some vault or closet somewhere collecting dust. Those rare tracks are way cool along with the entire "Live Wireless" concert as well. I do hope Mr. Dolby releases some new stuff soon. Maybe by next spring when Science hits 20 from its top 5 chart peak.
