Hi all, yes, it's me, Jon from Helsinki. After a protracted period of enforced absence things have returned to something with a semblence of normality again so I've managed to resubscribe. I did take the odd peek at the digests on the web from time to time but I guess that I have missed a lot. Well, what can I say? The sun is shining in good old Finland and all is well with the world. Due to the project that has been using up 150% of my time being on the verge of full global launch this stable state could change at any moment but what the hell! Think positive! What could possibly go wrong... hang on a minute, maybe I shouldn't have said that. The art discussion caught my attention and made me think of an old Nepalese proverb that I was once told. As I'm feeling lucky tonight I'll share it with you. The Nepalese say that truth is like an elephant surrounded by blind men. Every one of the men has hold of a different part of the elephant and knows for sure that that, is the elephant. Some have a foot, some the trunk, others a tusk and -god forbid- if it's a boy elephant it is likely that one of the blind men has gotten hold or more than he bargained for. Anyway, I digress. Basically art is truth. The definition of truth is different for every person and that truth is wholly dependent on which part of the elephant you're clutching. Amongst the blind there are also those that can see. They are as rare as they are lucky as they can see the whole elephant. Personally speaking, I have a nasty feeling that I've got hold of the tail and at least a couple of times a day that's a very dodgy place to stand! So that's my soapbox philosophy for the day! I hasten to add that the part about the elephants dick wasn't part of the original Nepalese proverb but I couldn't resist slipping it in there for good measure. (the double-entendre ratio is unintentionally frighteningly high at this point!) So there you go. One mans beautiful, soothing and meaningful 'art' is anothers meaningless crap. Why bother even discussing it. If you like it and it works that's enough. If it happens to match your sofa; bonus! Night all! 'last one up to put the cat out.
