It's mine in name only now but it's maintained by a large dodgy company using third world child labour to maintain it. So nice to see a story about Mike Batt... even if he is stealing John Cage's stuff. Usually, it's really faded '80's heavy metal or hair bands (or Vanilla Ice) playing there. Yikes! Jaxx is a sewer located in a run-down strip mall with a couple of tiny, broken-windowed ethnic grocery stores and a barber shop. When I went to Jaxx (for the first and only time) to see Wang Chung with a friend, it was a nightmare. Wang Chung was left sitting in a peeling plastic diner booth in the bar area for hours while some stinky, self-indulgent half-assed group played and played. The Wang Chung crew were all under the impression they'd be on stage by nine, but that was not the case. The heavily tattooed bouncer told us that the lame-o band (that was playing painfully for hours at that point) was fronted by a friend of the owner, and, any night he wanted to play, the headliner acts "just have to wait." Apparently, Wang Chung didn't go on until midnight. We left around 10 p.m. - it was a school night, and Springfield is a haul from Bethesda. We did *see* Wang Chung and *hear* Wang Chung, but it was a conversation about where they could find cheap hotel rooms for that night, rather than any tunes from Points on the Curve (which I still say is a damn good album.) Sigh... Michael & Denise Luckey wrote: > Hey gang, > For those of you in the D.C./Baltimore area Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks will be > at Club Jaxx in Springfield, Va. next Wednesday July 10th at 8PM. The place is a hole, but I did have a decent time seeing The Tubes there in the early 90's. Minus Fee Waybill, alas :( Guess we caught it on a night when the owner's musician friend was hung over.
