I've just downloaded a bizarre and brilliant version of SBMWS from audiogalaxy. It's performed by a marching band. Has anybody got any information about this? I always I thought I was strange learning how to play the solo on my guitar but hearing this has made my day. Anybody know what Thomas thinks of this version? - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Dear Friends, I am writing to let you know that I am leaving Beatnik Inc, the technology company I founded nearly ten years ago. This is a very amicable move, and in fact we intend to collaborate on projects going forward. I will I remain one of Beatnik's largest individual shareholders, and I will retain my seat on the Board of Directors. I'm leaving Beatnik at a time when its business has never been stronger. While many other Silicon Valley startups and music dotcoms have disappeared or been swallowed up, Beatnik has narrowed its focus to the wireless market, and is now poised to be the dominant audio engine in that space, licensing its technology into tens of millions of mobile phones. Nokia has launched six new models which feature enhanced Beatnik audio, and other European manufacturers will be announced shortly. In the USA, a very exciting device from a company called Danger is about to hit the streets, again with excellent Beatnik sound. With growing licensing revenues and a greatly reduced overhead, Beatnik expects to reach profitability in the near term. Despite Beatnik's licensing success, I feel the time has come for me to put my energies elsewhere. Deploying the technology was something I always saw as Phase One of a larger plan. Beatnik has become a viable business by concentrating on Phase One. Now several customers have asked me to do creative consulting projects that fall into the Phase Two areas Beatnik is no longer focused on. So after much discussion with Kathleen and my colleagues and investors, I have decided to pursue these opportunities independently--and perhaps find time to make some music of my own again. I am heading to Europe shortly to start work on one of these projects; it's top secret for now, but if you'd like to find out more, please use the following contact info: THOMAS DOLBY ROBERTSON P.O. It reminded me of one of my all time favorite old Dilbert strips, which you probably have seen, but here's the description anyway, to the best of my memory. We see Catbert (the cat who is an evil human resources director, for those unfamiliar with the comic) lounging on top of a computer monitor. He thinks: "I know I should be off tormenting the employees, but I just can't seem to tear myself away from this most excellent butt-warming device....Maybe it's the hype, but I can't help thinking this would be even better with Windows 95." (Obviously a bit dated now, but still a classic.)
