Hi y'all,

Happy belated Easter to you! (and a happy long weekend for those of you
who don't celebrate Easter)

Over this weekend I swiped the aforementioned camera to take some
insurance pics. Thought I'd share one or two of the offcuts with you. If
nothing else this should lower the expectation of these 'pic for today'
things. :-)

Okay, let's get started with the slide show....

First up is <http://www.paulbaily.com/random/balls.jpg> - not much to
look at (hey, look at the pic already before you start jumping to those
conclusions! ;-) but seared in my mind. Story behind this is that our
Melbourne office closed some months ago, and I've only just been able to
scrabble together some contiguous minutes to look at what they shipped
back. Don't know whether they just didn't think or thought 'packing? yeh
I've got your packing right here...' prefer to think it the former - but
they chose to pack everything in loose expanded polystyrene balls. Yep
the same ones you get in a bean bag. Sounds like a good theory? Well,
take a printer or photocopier or fax machine with nice open inviting
holes, put it in a box with a bucketload of these balls, then send them
interstate by road. An interesting effect happens. Due to the vibrations
of transport, these fricken balls work their way into every tiny little
orifice, getting into the paper paths, the gears, the woiks. So far I've
had to strip a fax machine (the pic is one of a series so I know where
things go back), an HP OfficeJet, and tomorrow a photocopier down to the
chasis, to get these suckers out. Memo to self: ask people to think
before they pack. Memo 2 to self: consider whether or not said people
have been given their marching orders before being asked to pack...

Next: <http://www.paulbaily.com/random/accessory1.jpg> shows the first
accessory to the crime, my trusty sidekick thats with me pretty much
every waking hour. For those that don't recognise it, it's an Apple
PowerBook Firewire (a.k.a. Pismo). Has my life on it. It's looking
innocent here since it's hooked up to a monitor that has the real action
happening. For those that do recognise it, that's a Saratoga (original
Apple Extended KB circa Mac II) keyboard that you see the corner of.
Well worth hunting down if you get the chance.

Following: <http://www.paulbaily.com/random/accessory2.jpg> These are my
beginner music tools. Ibanez 6 string acoustic, Kawai consumer KB. I
know, very base, and yes I still sorely regret letting go of the Juno
106 all those years back but hey it matches my beginner abilities. My
neighbours can attest to it. :-) The kawai, even though it's almost just
an organ on stilts, does have a pretty functional MIDI interface (again,
considering I'm a beginner...) so, thanks to a MOTU FastLane MIDI-USB
interface is quite good buddies with aforementioned Pismo. Keeps me out
of mischief when I'm not playing Marathon (think Doom crossed with
Aliens)...

Finally, just for a larf I flipped the cam:
<http://www.paulbaily.com/random/zoo.jpg> Zoolander look. :-)
<http://www.paulbaily.com/random/natch.jpg> what it says.

So there y'go, if I can post pics this embarrassing /surely/ you can
too! (hey, if you're stuck for space email them to me & I'll host them
here if you like, so that excuse is out. ;-)

Hope you're well.

P.

Paul, I love your photos. I want to get some of my own scanned in & posted,
too! But my scanner isn't connected (lazy scatterbrained me) and I have no
digital camera. I want everyone to see what they think of some of these
works of "art" I've been making lately (heeheeehee) I wold really love to
see other Alloy members' random pix. Encouragement from me :) Any snaps
from our latest travels?

Paul, everything looks so clean and sunlit in Australia. The Land of
Tomorrow is certainly pretty, especially when viewed from gloomy upstate New
York..!

Mary, I'd love to check out the Migraine book. I've heard that in
diagnosing children, it's most useful to have them draw what they imagine
their headaches look like. It's more telling than a verbal description,
since many people have a tendency to visualize sensations, and children
especially may not have the specific vocabulary words to describe how the
pain feels.

Oliver Sacks' footnotes don't really bother me when I'm reading.. maybe I'm
used to hearing people interrupt themselves when talking to explain some
aside... I think my friends tend to speak a little fragmentedly (as do I)
The style of interrupting oneself probably shows pathways of the mental
activity of the person, I'd guess, so the books seem like an honest
expression of Oliver Sacks' mind, lots of tangents but very interesting!

Oliver Sacks is one of my favorite authors, though his compulsiveness
with footnotes tends to interrupt the lyrical flow of his writing.
I am on the library waiting list for Uncle Tungsten but at the moment
I have one that you would really appreciate, Robin. It's called
Migraine and I think you'd enjoy the artwork in it, done by migraine
sufferers.

Hi everyone ,

Just replying in regards the poss. release of Submarines covers - it appears
a couple of us have tracked down a poss. record store in the UK who may be
able to obtain copies - if & when released - they are called 'Chunky
records' but so far they have no knowledge of the forthcoming release .

I will keep an eye on their web site & update as & when.

P.S. Ive changed my mind again for my favourite Thomas tune - at present its
'Flying North' - i always turn the volume up for this one & have a great
sing along. - scared the budgie half to death.

By the way for anyone whose interested (more than likely just me) ,
Blackpool Football Club have just won their first trophy in 30 Years - and i
was there to see it - hurrah .

Best wishes all,

Paul.

art features pics of my uncle Stephen's submarine from WW2. No news of when
or if it will be available Stateside."

LOL, you emailed them too then? I didn't post cos I didn't want to raise
hopes. I notice they post overseas, so if they can get it it might be time
for the Alloy bulk order!
