[Barbara Cohen Subject: Alloy: The Friday feeling! Hi all, I was in the UK this week and whilst away my CDbaby package arrived so I shall be collecting it from the post office this very eventide. Yahoo! When I was in the UK I was dredging the secondhand record shops as usual and to my utter amazement I found a 7" copy of May The Cube Be With You with the special cube-shaped picture cover. I had no idea that this even existed. I thought it was just a 12" cube-cover. Result! Even Lazlo has no mention of it. The future of direct music sales is here already and begins in Finland on this very day. You might be interested in this. Elisa to deliver digital music to Nokia phones January 18, 2002) Users of the Nokia 5510 and Nokia Music Player HDR-1 can download tracks from Emma.fm Elisa Communications and Nokia have together developed a mobile music service for Emma.fm (www.emma.fm), Elisa's on-line store for digital music, to pilot the commercial distribution of music to mobile devices. The Emma.fm pilot delivers digital music tracks to the Nokia 5510 phone and Nokia Music Player HDR-1 in a protected file format. The service allows customers in Finland to pay for purchased tracks via their mobile phone bill. Other methods of payment include Internet banking and credit cards. The service opens for commercial use on January 18, 2002. The music bought from the online music store is downloaded to the user's computer and then transferred to the device. When users download a track for the first time, they receive the Emma Player, which allows them to manage their tracks and transfer them via their PC to their Nokia 5510 or Nokia Music Player. Currently, the service is available only to customers in Finland. Wemppa Koivumdki, Managing Director of EMI Finland, believes that the pilot is a very important extension to the Emma.fm service. "This kind of distribution of music is one of the most potential areas of growth. This trial should generate vital information and experience in this new area of business for all record companies involved." "With this service, we are piloting a new business model. We believe that mobile music will be an important area of digital services and that customer convenience is key. This particular business model offers users the convenience of paying for purchased music content directly via their mobile phone bill. The Emma.fm music service represents a good start for the mobile music business," said Ilkka Raiskinen, Vice President, Mobile Applications and Services, Nokia Mobile Phones. Emma.fm has received prizes in many multimedia contests. The service was the winner of the eBusiness category in the Euro Prix 2001 contest. Emma.fm has been recognized for its payment system, well-functioning user interface and network quality. The Emma.fm service was designed in cooperation with DKT ry (The Finnish National Group of IFPI), international record companies such as BMG, EMI and edel, and the largest domestic record companies Poko Records, Spinefarm, Johanna Kustannus, Love Kustannus and Siboney. Emma.fm was launched in January 2001. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2002 19:29:51 -0000 From: "Blagg & Norling" Subject: Re: Alloy: Thomas Dolby CD > Thanks Bill Sorted....It arrived autograph and all. I got 34. We are all neighbors in the Dolby spirit. I haven't had a chance to listen to it (wanted to make time when I'm not working, cleaning, etc and can really appreciate it!) but based on the reviews, I am super-anxious to hear "Submarines" !!!! > I also have that 1985 Grammy appearance with Howard Jones, Herbie > Hancock, and Stevie Wonder that I keep meaning to dub for interested parties > as soon as I resolve my VCR shortage. Since then, I have read of other ally members receiving their copy and also enjoying it as much as I do. After receiving my copy, I decided to order other copy; this time being the autographed copy. I ordered it at Jan 3 or Jan 4, dont remember when, and finally received it a few days ago. Now I am wondering how, thoses that also bought a copy of the autographed cd, received low numbers. Do you order early or was it random? My numbered copy was #200. Yup, you heard right. I am not complaining but just wondering how thoses persons who received an autographed copy, just recently in the mail, got a low number. On the other hand, I really like the autograph on the jewel box and on the disk itself. It is so cool knowing TMDR actually signed this. If this "40" disk is successful then I hope TMDR will issue other recordings as well. Walter ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V7 #15 **************************
