The 2002 iMac looks quite stunning in both form and specs if you ask me. If I weren't joined at the hip to my trusty PowerBook I'd be going for one of these. For those that don't know the history Apple's Employee #1 and CEO, a.k.a. Steve Jobs, also heads up Pixar which came out with such delights as Shrek. If you have a look at the Shrek DVD (or the Pixar website if you've the bandwidth or patience - it's worth it!) you can also be treated to a charming and similarly delightful animation prototype they made a while back featuring Lux Jr. [S]He's the desk lamp bouncing around in Pixar's logo sequence. I'm still amazed that something so inanimate can be made so, well, animated. If you have a look at Apple's site after seeing Lux Jr. you might begin to see some similarities. On a Mac OS X list the question was posed how long it would take for a cartoonist to see the same. Not long at all it turns out. The following had me in fits of giggles... but then I'm like that. :-) stay well, Paul. Thanks Jon, if I've got it right this time the animation is on the Toy Story 2 DVD. P. [Baily, you're a wally...] This message powered by City Song/Howard Jones off The Best Of Howard Jones. I think. No, pretty sure... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2002 21:48:25 -0200 From: "Paulo" Subject: Alloy: Forty Hello: I have just received and finished to listen to my copy of Forty. It was great to hear those old 80's tracks again in a live context (I had never heard Mr. Dolby live). Some of the songs such as Screen Kiss or My Brain Is Like A Sieve hasn't change much, while others like One Of Our Submarines and Hyperactive are very different. It was a strange feeling... like meeting an old friend we don't see for too many years. Very nostalgic... Thomas musicianship is always great and it is very hard to understand the market or the buying public today: those great 80's artists such as Thomas, Kate Bush, Prefab Sprout or Swing Out Sister had to step aside in favour of modern rubbish which ivaded radios, MTV, etc... And what had previously begun as an invasion, became an occupation and the aim is world domination. It is unfair. The real good pop music is lost in the past. Please Thomas, don't deprive the world from your music... The state pop music is today, it really needs some class. Let's hope he don't take too long to release more albums (Forty number is LTP001.... let's hope for number 002, 003, 004...............099, 100, 101, 102... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2002 21:49:49 -0200 From: "Paulo" Subject: Alloy: a mention There is a very brief mention of Thomas Dolby here: http://www.curlysairships.com/jsdiscog.html#democrazy Chris Judge Smith with Peter Hammil were the founders of the underrated prog rock band Van Der Graaf Generator. I can't imagine how, but they made a musical connection between the 2. I'm sure you all already know the song, but if someone doesn't it is a hi-nrg disco song. Very very beautiful with some melancholic keyboards probably played by Thomas, since he is also the producer. The B-Side is the instrumental mix TAKE IT TO THE BRIDGE. There are many recognizable sounds in both mixes from the Thomas Dolby sound spectrum. Being a 12", the song was remixed by MARK KAMINS & HARVEY GOLDBERG. Well, I have some doubts and questions concerning this song and maybe you can help me: Since it is a 12" REMIX, then probably maybe an album also exists, which may contain the song NOT REMIXED (in the way Thomas Dolby produced and played). Does anyone know if there is such thing? Does this album really exists? Or did Thomas & Adele only record this 12"?? Did they both record anything else?? Please, any information is welcomed. Thank you all Have a wonderful 2002 Paulo ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V7 #5 *************************
