I've heard an instrumental version of 'I Scare Myself' playing (not once but twice) at the local Kroger's (a large grocery store chain in the U.S., for anyone who might not know) in Memphis, about two-three years ago. Quite pleasant rendition, and the first time I didn't recognize it because it simply didn't computer that 'I Scare Myself' would be background music while I was looking for the canned carrots. I waited forever for it to come out and bought it the moment it did and I enjoyed the whole album, with (as usual) standout songs like 'Cruel' and 'Neon Sisters' as painfully beautifully as any I've ever heard. I'm sure the sales potential has something to do with it, although I wish there was a useful way to market new music to the fanbase . . . mp3s are internet distributable and avoid the cost of packaging and printing CDs, and I'd certainly pay for rare cuts, old or new. Or pay a premium or limited run CDs . . . Although I understand that the stuff Beatnik is doing with Nokia and integration of rich musical options into all sorts of portable digital devices is super cool, too. One day, I'll get somewhere where where I can see Mr. Dolby do a keynote . . . ;) Best, - -- Kevin S.
