I've been a devout fan of Thomas since October 81 when as a 12 year old I heard a local radio station play Europa (the 12" version too!!!). I bought his records religiously throughout my teens and up to 'Minds Eye' and probably like everyone here found it to be a core element to the soundtrack to my life. Even now 20 years on Thomas' music is a part of who I am. It's the sound of being awkward - 'Urges', of growing self belief - 'Windpower', of falling in love 'I scare Myself' then being hurt 'My Brain Is Like a Sieve', of losing friends 'I love you, goodbye'. TMDR has provided me with laughs too with 'May the cube be with you', 'Silk Pyjamas' and 'Hot Sauce' still bring a smile to my face. But 'Urban Tribal' is song that defined my life, I don't possess the Low Noise version only the live one on 'Live Wireless'. I heard that song for the first time the day I met the love of my life and lost the tape the day she left in circumstances that to my interpretation of the song mirrored. Even though I've moved on and have enjoyed a wonderful life I still think if I get that song back she'll return... but that would be too coincidental!!! I understand that Mr. Robertson reads these mailings and so to you I thank you for providing me with pleasure for 20 years and for saying things that seemed to matter to me, and I hope you and yours are well. As you said 'The beauty of a dream is don't let it go' Finally a small observation, I've just seen the 'zippy' web site and I was looking at the lyrics to 'Therapy/Growth' and I always thought the lyrics were... 'You were dreaming of a life somewhere else' and 'Small-town Guru, there's one thing that I know' Anyway I look forward to being a member of this illustrious group Cheers!!! p.s. Happy Birthday for the other week Thomas! Sally asked about Song of the Week. It's something we were doing to compile things for Thomas' site - but it got to the point where no one was posting their ideas for interpretations, so instead we've been delving into the Archives, where hundreds of fabulous interpretations are waiting to be gathered from a lot of our previous conversations! But it's really a lot of fun to hear people's ideas about the songs, and there are some new members who I'm sure would love to voice their interpretations. Sally, would you like to begin by suggesting a song for us to talk about? in fact, please get in touch with me personally if you'd like to mastermind the archival collection of these! xxxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Oct 2001 12:17:06 -0700 (PDT) From: Brian Clayton Subject: Re: Alloy: Hello everybody > Sally asked about Song of the Week.
