Dear Sir, The last few months I've frequented your site and those of your peers. During this time I observed many risque entendres, graphic -erm graphics, little respect for reality or literary culture, base language, hentai, even adolescent humor. I'd like to express the following in the strongest possible terms. Keep up the good work. I'm just responding now from my work address...) I *love* the orange cover. I'd very much appreciate hearing if there are any extras up for grabs! Also, this is getting strange... you mentioned "I Scare Myself" recently (and the coincidence of simultaneously encountering a "dhicks" email address for someone @ another of your accounts) A friend of mine in the music biz who knows I'm a fan of TMDR has just told me yesterday he thinks Dan Hicks is doing a new version of "I Scare Myself"... has anyone heard of this? or is my friend just spreading rumors? :) For those of you who may be following my and my friends' misadventures..! this link goes to a good page of concert photos of my friend's band, who were hired to be 'The Band' in a scene from Roger Corman's upcoming slasher flick. I made it about as far as episode 3 before I couldn't take any more (although, with the sound off, watching all those lithe young girls in short skirts and tight tops jiggling around wasn't too bad). Maybe I should have persevered with it, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Apart from anything else, I found it hard to take Giles seriously as his most notable performance in the UK prior to Buffy had been in a rather tacky instant coffee ad, IIRC. I did better with Roswell High, again shown from episode one by the Beeb, but not a rerun this time as it had only been on cable before. But the Beeb made one of their monumental blunders; the last episode of series one was scheduled for the same week as the finals of the World Snooker Championships. A key match was being played on the day when the last episode of RH was to be screened, and the match over ran, so RH wasn't shown. OK, no problem, they'll reschedule it ... won't they? Afraid not. Their contract with the suppliers gave them a specific time period in which they had to show all episodes, so we had to wait about six months until series two began before we were able to see the final one of series one. I'm sorry, I seem to be rambling here. Slarv Robin Thurlow wrote: > > > I also have something (completely off-topic) on my mind tonight... did any of > you know I'm a "Buffy" fan? He was the best since Tim Curry and hasn't been bettered yet. Not only has he got a great singing voice but he looked wonderful in stockings and basque - sex on legs! Having delurked so precipitously perhaps I ought to introduce myself a little more clearly. I am, as you know, Lissu's Mum. My only claim to fame! *grin* Where did I first hear Thomas's music? When a 16year old came back home from her first trip to Finland - and proceeded to drown out every other sound in the house with the music from her room. The other thing I really remember is seeing the video of 'She Blinded Me with Science' on Top of the Pops, with Magnus Pike overacting as he usually did. My favourite song - it has to be 'I Love You, Goodbye' - just wonderful. Having lurked for a long time I do hope you'll forgive me if I just sit quietly in the corner and keep my daughter wondering if Mum is going to embarrass her soon :-)) Pam xxx ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 01:04:00 -0400 From: "Robin Thurlow" Subject: Re: Alloy: Postpunk Chronicles etc - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Slarvibarglhee" > > When the Beeb began to rerun all the Buffies > from episode one I thought I'd > better > give it a try to see what all the fuss was about. > I made it about as far as > episode 3 before I couldn't take any more > (although, with the sound off, > watching > all those lithe young girls in short skirts and > tight tops jiggling around > wasn't > too bad). I was afraid it would just be too silly, & never even gave it a chance. Within the past year however, I've tuned in a couple of times & was really very impressed. We first tuned in to the one with "The Gentlemen", which was almost entirely without dialogue... very well-written and acted. Then later, I was finally hooked for good with the appearance of Dawn (shhh! :) this year. Like Jon says, the shows do get quite a bit better as they go. It's nice seeing the early versions of the characters though. I'm wondering when Spike will turn up, as well as Seth Green's character. When we visited Edinburgh in June, by sheer coincidence, the actress who plays my favorite character on the recent Buffies (Amber Benson/"Tara") happened to be on a signing tour of the UK. On our arrival, we passed a flyer on our way to our flat, advertising Amber's signing that very weekend at the local comics shop - so of course we had to go! I was happy to see such a huge crowd.. we just barely got in. Amber seemed to be having a lot of fun. I asked her how she was & she said she felt a bit "knackered".. :) She is extremely pretty in person, and very sweet. > Apart from anything else, I found it hard > to take Giles seriously as his > most notable performance in the UK prior to > Buffy had been in a rather tacky > instant coffee ad, IIRC. I remember those coffee commercials - they aired them here too. Giles begins to change his look as the show goes on I think... in the later ones he has put on more muscle & doesn't wear the 3-piece suit anymore. He's tougher and actually rather predatory at times, in a way that suits his character. I would *love* to have seen him in the production of Rocky Horror Picture Show! Thanks for this information, Pam... did you actually have the chance to see him in this performance? xxxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #259 ***************************
