[Robin Thurlow Subject: Alloy: TMDR @ last year's PopTech... I've been checking out the PopTech site (http://www.poptech.com/past_pop_techs.cfm) regularly since last November, hoping they'll have their streaming video archive of the October 2000 event up & running (which they don't yet) Even the Session Summaries appear to be gone! These contained great photos of Thomas giving his presentation, which I was about to direct our new members to if they're curious, but now it looks as if I can't even do that. I did just look briefly through some of the press the conference received though, & came across an article which spotlights some of the points at the end of Thomas' presentation, concerning copyright & the internet: http://www.conferenza.com/ArtDsp.asp?file=200010/camden_intro.htm This was one of the finest moments of the presentation IMO... I'm grateful Thomas was there to give his personal point of view regarding the issue. (I had tuned in to this presentation live on the internet at the time & luckily heard the whole thing) It's distressed me for a while personally that John Perry Barlow is the only voice anyone at tech conferences - or other conferences for that matter, including a recent one for book collectors & librarians! - seems to be hearing when an 'artist' voice is required. It's better if people can hear as many different points of view as possible & Thomas spoke very powerfully on the matter as he and many others see it. He also spoke about the place of art & how it affects individuals as well as societies. One day if they get the Streaming Video up, you'll hopefully get to see it for yourselves if you're interested :) I have bugged thePopTech folks about it a couple of times & they always tell me it'll be up soon (??) Anyway if I do see it's up, I'll be sure to post with the link right away... xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #255 ***************************
