I think in the end I'm only making myself and everyone else more nervous & tense by going on about it so much. My problem is, a world war in this day & age of technology has been my worst nightmare my entire life, and now it look like it's coming true. And the quadruple airplane crashes did nothing to help my nerves (I've been afraid to fly lately) But I don't want to bring more tension to people's lives by talking about my own opinions anymore. I don't want to keep reopening wounds when the best thing we can do is try to pull ourselves together right now and make ourselves strong as individuals, so that we can face whatever is to come. I hadn't meant to go on about things quite as much as I did. As I mentioned before, I've been more nervous and scared than ever before in my life. I always consider myself another member of Alloy, but I realise that many here take my job as manager to mean I consider myself an authority, and that my words might be taken more heavily than I mean them. Everything I say here is in the context of being a member, not a manager. Like Thomas said in his interview with Jon (and I very much agree), Alloy pretty much runs itself. The only time I'm the manager is when I press the buttons to make people's mail go through, or when someone has a problem they wish to consult with me about. What we need is each other's support & I'm sorry that, as your friend, I haven't been as supportive as I could have to everyone here. I hope you can accept my apology. xxxxx Robin T __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? Don't worry.. at least for my sake! I know that when you post here on Alloy.. you are posting as a member.. and that the 'manager' and 'list owner' titles are for more or less administrative/technical reasons.. not as much for 'leading' the group here.. even though you do take an appropriate lead when necessary. I know this tragedy has affected all of us powerfully and in many different ways. I hope we can all manage to rethink our approaches to life with a positive outcome. It's been a strange week for me here on the west coast.. where the skies are blue and the sun shines and it seems so improbable that disasters like this could happen. However.. I find it difficult to concentrate on things.. my mind keeps wandering back to the images burnt into my brain of the carnage in NY and Washington and PA. Hang in there!! Things can only improve from Tuesday's mess! Ciao for now.. What a voice of reason. You know I really do love my country (America), but I sincerely hope our leaders don't involve us in a long drawn out war that could be disastrous for everyone involved. Hopefully, those behind the attack last Tuesday will be found out and brought to justice; and as Thomas said, may they not be able to hurt anyone else again. I also hope our civil liberties do not disappear under the guise of security measures. Let us hope for the best. It's been wonderful to see how people everywhere are giving blood, money and anything that's needed by those most affected who are in need. On another note, can't believe how translation can change the lyrics of a song so much as to render it nonsensical. Amazing!!! Well, I'd better get some work done today sometime. Just got into work actually. Ciao, Kate;-) __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? I find myself listening to him quite a bit now. xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 23:55:24 +0100 From: Slarvibarglhee Subject: Re: Alloy: no more from me Robin Thurlow wrote: > I just wanted to say to everyone that I realise I've > been nervously babbling away about the war since last > week, and repeating myself to no useful end. When you start carrying a Kalashnikov and become the Alloy Enforcer we might change our view, but for now, carry on as normal. > > > > What we need is each other's support ..... To All Alloy Members, When I was first exposed to this site, from my brother, some time ago, I asked numerous questions regarding Thomas Dolby music and videos. Most of the answers were well thought out and explanatory so that I really didnt realize that there were numerous knowledgable Dolby fans out there. Since then I just managed to stand on the side lines and observe all of the current alloy messages that I receive on a daily basis. I am quite surprised at times when I see something directly from Mr. Dolby himself. Recently, Thomas comment, in great detail, his safe flight to Milan and expressed his personal views about the recent bombing incidents here in America. I must agree that enough innocent lives have been lost in recent attacks upon American targets and our retailation attacks on foreign soil. Despite the fact that ignorance breeds violence, the rational reaction would be to difuse our differences and work out a reasonable resolution. As Mr. Dolby put it so elequantly "switch off the mind and let your heart decide". Unfortunately, the tragedic damage and loss is far beyond the imaginable. The real villian is the mastermind behind this operation and previous operations. With either the apprehension or asassination of this corrupt and influential person, the world will be rid of one lesser evil. This wont stop possible attempts but correct the thinking of his current followers that religion isnt an excuse for violence and reduce the negative imagage of America. I must admit, being an American, that current policies and actions are questionable and are subject to debate. But I feel at times that America attempts to rectify "questionable actions and policies" from foreign countries is only to support true democracy and not to allienate or disfranchise its territory or its people. Besides protecting our interests during the Gulf War, the other goal was to drive out the invading force and contain it within its borders. This time the network is widerspread but I feel once the main level is subdued along with its leader, Bin Laden, would I feel that the threat has been reduced. Mr. Dolby, I agree with your thoughts and support a strong reaction. I know this will be involved and I hope that the loss of innocents will be limited just like the Gulf War. The Allied treatment of the captured Iraqi army sent a strong message that the Allied force didnt succumb to the senseless killing of innocents. This "act of war" upon American soil has stirred up American and world support that these activites will not be tolerated and that the person or persons responsible should be punished. I support all alloy members who feel the same way. I hope our thoughts and feelings mushroom worldwide in order to reduce terrorist activites and sentiment....
