(don't smack me! LOL) i'm also a very avid Duran Duran fan. i have kind of a popular website called Calling Planet Earth, which i just remodeled the other day. websites are a big hobby of mine. :) I also like playing music.. i haven't really tried writing my own, but i own 3 guitars and a very recently acquired Korg Trinity Pro synthesizer. i LOVE that thing! i figured out the bassline to One of our Submarines the second day i had that keyboard. hehe I have 4 cats.. and i named my new kitten Dolby. partially after thomas, but i just thought it'd be a cute name for a little grey kitty. hah favourite colour? i'm partial to purple and blue. :) thanks for the warm welcome! - -kathryn Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! This from the this Wednesdays's English newspaper 'The Gaurdian' newspaper 5/9/01. Headline: 639 year organ piece gets off to a quiet start An organ concert which began last night at Midnight is due not to finish for 639 years. The performance of Organ2/ASLSP (as slow as possible) marks the realisation of the John Cage Organ Project by the late avant garde American composer - - his contribution to help slow the world down. The worlds longest piece of music is taking place in the East German town of Halberstadt, in its deconsecrated monastry. It is being played on an organ specially built for the occaision by German organ maker Gerhrd Woehl. But even last nights audience did not hear any notes - only the sound of the bellows as the organ was set in motion. They will have to wait 18 months for the first notes to sound - a three note chord scheduled for January 5 2003. The following year on July the 5th two notes will be heard and so on until the performance 's scheduled end in 2640 - with a half time interval around 2319. Michael Betzle the head of the John Cage Organ Foundation said that 639 years was chosen because construction of Germany's first block signal organ - the first of a series of famous organs from Halberstadt was completed 639 years ago. "The long period of time is supposed to form a contrast to the breathless pace of change in the modern day world" said Mr Betzle. Cage who died at the age of 80 in 1992, wrote ASLSP as a 20 minute piece of music for the piano. Those who do not have time to hear how 20 minutes can be stretched out to six centuries can listen later this week to a one hour adaptation of the piece by Hans- Peter Schulz in Halberstadt cathederal. Just had to share this with you appologies for being 'off Dolby'. Tim. p.s.
