I've ordered my nifty new mixer (Behrigner MX1804X) but I've got a wee problem. The phantom power is global. My friend has a guitar with an XLR output on it and he's learned the hard way once that it will fry if he plugs it into an XLR with phantom power. Anyone of the tech-heads here know of a box I can build to defeat phantom power? I should be able to come up with something to plug the guitar into then plug the box into the mixer and still be able to have the phantom power. I've been scouring the internet for schematics but can't find anything. Let's see... what else is new. Oh, last week I parodied a VERY popular webcomic with hardcore obsessive fans (http://www.megatokyo.com) and ended up starting a huge internet war between the fans of my comic and the fans of that comic (not to mention becoming despised by the creators of the other comic). Well I managed to square things with at least one of the MegaTokyo creators (Largo) and he knows I didn't mean it as a personal attack on him but just as a joke based on the way the artist draws his characters. But sparatic fighting is still occuring between the two comics' fans. I think they took it personally because the two main characters in the comic are based on themselves, Piro (the artist/writer) and Largo (webpage programmer). Almost everyone I know who has read the comic thought that Piro was a girl for the first month or so of the comic. Well... that was where I had my fun with it. I'm just one of those bastards who has to throw rocks at the bee's nest just to see what will happen. It was kinda fun to watch all the fights break out on IRC and what not. Lord knows, that's how most people got introduced to Moby! The music that gets me right now is the funky bell-chiming, aria-ish piece in the Volkswagen "Wedding" commercial. A long time ago, someone directed me to a site called adcritic.com, but, to be honest, I'd forgotten all about it (it was a couple of years ago.) I just rediscovered it - it's much more sophisticated than it was last time I was there. Now I know that the "Wedding" commercial music is "One Million Miles Away" by J. Ralph. I am so happy. Anyway, if you have a hankerin' to know who does that commercial with the funky music that has you all tingly, go to http://music.adcritic.com. Later! - - Melissa ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2001 22:18:08 -0600 From: "Beth Meyer" Subject: Alloy: OT: Baby pics Hi, folks; FYI, in case anyone's interested, photos of our new baby are available at: www.bethmeyer.com Just click on "Eric's section". There are pictures there of him with his big sister too, if your curious as to what she's looking like these days. I know that's terribly presumptuous to assume anyone's interested, but I wouldn't be a new and proud parent if I didn't at least make the announcement :-) And now back to your regularly scheduled programming... - -Beth bethmeyer@mindspring.com ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #226 ***************************
