I would like to thank all (Russell et al) for verifiying that I am not indeed as delusional as I originally thought I was. That perfomarnce existed! I would REALLY appreciate it if you got a copy of that to me, black and white or not (SEE address below). Bad sound or not; his solos tend to cut though most anything else anyway, especially Roland boards (if that's what he was using at the time). I want my JX8P back. Sigh. I least I still have my Juno-1. SEND ME A TAPE, unless, of course, Mr. Dolby dissaproves, or has a better copy for sale, say, $9.95... (Grinning erriely. But still a fantasy, I must admit. I'd keep the envelope and frame it.) Besides, perfomance 'noir' tends to be a refreshing change. No distracting flashing colour lights to pull you away from the main point; the music done live by the person you came to see. I left a Chemical Brothers show for just that reason; all flash and no cash... er, content. But the Orb, who opened, was weel worth it, and was the reason for my going anyway... Not to mention that I just finished a little project. Just got a Sony digital camcorder. Combine that with my iMac (graphite 500) and iMovie, and wheeee! I was editing a video from my senior year tv production class (1984/5) of b/w fake commercials, documentaries, etc. Boy, I was skinny then. But anyway... We were using old 60's/70's bw studio cameras which were donated, plus Umax tape systems (if you know what they are). I dubbed them to VHS (a new commodity at the time) in community college a few months later. Back then, color was a special effect... Add testosterone (and girls in full bloom) plus misguided creativitiy and bad acting... you get this stuff. Wonderfully awful stuff. Sending it off to a few old acquaintances. You can catch some of it (after 1am est thurs 8/23, maybe later) at: http://home.earthlink.net/~bfhm/movies/psa.mov and http://home.earthlink.net/~bfhm/movies/circus_spoons.mov (quicktime 4 or better) (I do not appear in these, thank god - but I am the offstage voice in the psa.mov) By the way, it really blows my mind that folks younger than I (2 years or more) think that b/w is now a special effect, except for b-flicks, and perhaps Casablanca. Oy. SIDE NOTE: I've listened to Pulp Culture about 7 times in the car in the last 2 days. Maybe 'cause I'm thinking of doing a version using my Chapman Stick for the bassline. Plus it's midied, so I can do either the marimba or flutish part on top at the same time... ahh, not enough hours in the day, you know? Also, my wife personally adores "Hot Sauce". Screen Kiss still tends to be my favourite, though. (Toss up with Mulu on that recording) But anyway: Did I mention that I would REALLY APPRECIATE IT if you sent me a copy, by hook or by crook? I'd be glad to send you a few bucks to cover the cost of the tape and/or shipping. Or maybe a trade: I have David Sylvian & Robert Fripp, Damage tour, in Japan: with japanese subtitles, sort of a "rockumentary" on japan tv, with interviews between songs. I you like that sort of thing. By the way, I never saw "Rockumentary." Guess I should, at some point... Please let me know if you plan on throwing a tape my way at bfhm@earthlink.net. SIDE NOTE: Does anyone else feel that the only decent thing to come out of the pop world lately (pop, not everything*) is Dido? Just curious. *I don't listen to the radio personally, but am forced to at work, being on the Mac next to the radio, and yet still without a say in which station is to be focused upon. I prefer NPR or perhaps an oldies station (think of the song "Sweet Pea" or "Love Potion #9"), as 80's music tends to be skipped over locally. SIDE NOTE: I've been watching your contributions, Crackers. You have me intrigued. Accordian? Popular musician in the area (of your town)? In the same breath? Can I catch a preview of your music somewhere? Truly interested. Sounds like friends of mine who would show up on stage each show with a different instrument they either created (i.e. Frankenguitar, with one string that actually played) or discovered (yes, accordian from a garage sale, nose flute, the 'E-bow', etc.). Thanks all and keep me posted.
