Must have been a hold over memory from > seeing the movie Labirynth or something/ When I was in high school I had a weird dream about David Bowie that I still remember because it was so vivid. In this dream, I was sitting in my room drawing when David walked in, saying he was there to have sex. I said, are you sure? He looked a little depressed and said yes but he was too tired for it, because he'd in fact been dead for several years and it was only the media that was keeping him alive. I said oh... well maybe you'd better just lay down for a while instead. He did, and I laid next to him on my bed. Then, out of nowhere, all of these cartoon animals came frolicking into the room in a very silly way and we just laughed watching them.. It was a very strange dream! > Hehehehe. Hey that demon would make an interesting webcomic character. Ever > thought of entering the fast paced field of webcomics? I hadn't thought of it but you're welcome to him! Now that you mention it though, maybe I should try painting him. He was very distinctive looking. He was small and bird-like (literally) but with a very round, human-like head and face, and a serene, sphinx-like expression.. all except for his eyes... which were extraordinarily keen and focused, watchful of everything around him. His skin was absolutely pitch black and his arms/wings were stunted-looking, somewhat like melted wax. Now that I think of it, he reminds me of the Basilisk (SP?) in some alchemical fantasy story I read ages ago (the Worm Oroborous, I think) And there was a book i read recently by an African novelist in which there were demons similar to Sunny. but if you use him in your webcomic, you can make anything you like of him :) Being a demon, I'm sure he must be 'public domain'! xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 16:47:02 -0700 From: Robyn Moore Subject: Re: Alloy: "hacked" off..? and a strange Dolby dream And lo! I'd rather like having that one, but it's one of those situations where I haven't had the money and the opportunity at the same time. I'm sure you've been there. I remember hearing a story once about when Neil and Rachel did a tour together, possibly for this deck. It seems that Neil was startled to discover that to a significant portion of the attendees, Rachel was the famous one, and he was the second-stringer. Fortunately, he had a good sense of humour about it and wasn't offended. I'm sure you've been there. I definitely have! But luckily, eBay is allowing me to get caught up on lots of things I've missed during those recurrent lean times :) (or maybe, unluckily, for my bank account) > I remember hearing a story once > about when Neil and Rachel did a tour > together, possibly for this deck. The girlfriend of one of my dearest friends has worked closely with him & speaks highly of him. Based on everything I've heard, he seems extremely nice and easy-going. I recently heard the story of how Neil decided not to cut his hair until he'd finished writing his most recent book. He *really* wanted it cut, so the self-imposed 'reward' system was good motivation for him to keep hammering away until the thing was done. A great idea!! The Vertigo deck is really beautiful. I only wish the cards themselves were larger, so I might see the artwork a little better. But I love the deck's use of various Vertigo characters to represent the Major Arcana. Really fascinating. I'm sure it'll turn up again for you when you've got the ability to purchase it. This deck just happened to be there last week when Dave went into the comic shop, and we haven't seen it out in a while, so he was kind enough to snag it for me. This is the new edition in fact... so you may find them a little more readily available! xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #221 ***************************
