It's been a looooong time since I posted, sorry. Just got around to reading 500+ emails(!), including alloys. Anyway - Am I the only one who remembers this: TMDR, Howard Jones, Herbie Hancock, and Stevie Wonder playing, I believe, a Beethoven piece live in a music or Grammys show in the mid 80's? All I remember is that I was on the telephone with a girlfriend at the time, so I caught 80% of it ;> Or was it a Mozart piece? At the time, Herbie Hancock's "Rock it" was popular; Hojo was sporting his Lion-esque haircut, "No One is to Blame" era; Stevie was, well, stevie. MR. D. was sporting an 18th century look, complete with wig. It was on the "Big Three" stations (ABC, CBS, NBC), as we didn't have cable then. Plus MTV wasn't really hosting big events or shows like this yet. Therefore, I'm sure it was the Grammys. I have searched in vain for a legit (or nonlegit, unfortunately) recording and/or video of this performance on & off. Does anybody have a clue about this performance? Or was it just a fantasy/delusion? I Know it was real. Some record company has been releasing recordings of past Grammy performances, like a greatest hits cd, which I saw in the local retail cd places, but not going back that far (generally from 1990 and up). So this option is out, probably not enough $ draw for them to release it. If you have any info relating to this, please post. Plus feel free to email me directly at bfhm@earthlink.net. I'd appreciate it! Thanks! ~robb ********************* Never under any circumstances take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Aug 2001 17:11:07 -0400 From: Russell Milliner Subject: Re: Alloy: TMDR in the grammys, 1980's I had a video tape recording of this. Note the word HAD. In an accident that I kick my self for to this day, it was accidentally recorded over. I have also been looking for a tape of this event ever since. The sad thing is to know that the networks have recordings of this sitting in some storage place collecting dust and probably deteriorating away into oblivion. - -Russ Robb & Tara wrote: > > Howdy. > > It's been a looooong time since I posted, sorry. I was crouched under the dining room table in Moscow, avoiding the pot shots from tanks near the TV tower, one hand snaked out the window, holding my 10 ruble antenna, the other cradling my tiny portable tv, trying to pick up CNN and find out what the hell was going on outside. (But we all know the CNN tell a different story, ha ha) Do you remember where you were when Eastern Bloc gasped its last breath? Earlier in the day, I had seen Boris Yeltsin's car smash through a security gate to get into the Russian White House, and I was later stuck outside of the city for hours in a sea of tanks (I stopped counting at 92), trying to find our diplomatic couriers and usher them through customs before all hell broke loose. I finally had to abandon my car and walk back to the embassy through the chaos. When I got back to my office and watched the action on the street, tank drivers holding flowers waved to me and my officemates, trying to get us to come join them, while the embassy security officers screamed at us to get away from the windows. I was mere feet away from all of it. It blew my mind. I can't believe it was ten years ago... Cheers, Melissa ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #218 ***************************
