[Merujo ] Re: Alloy: "hacked" off..? and a strange Dolby dream ["Robin Thurlow" Subject: Alloy: MIDI data for TMDR ? Hi, Has anyone got any MIDI data relating to TMDR Music ? Drum tracks - keyboard parts etc? If a record company owns the copyright to the recording - do they also own the performance data - if distributed as MIDI data? Ive had a quick look through at some MIDI file companies on the net and failed to find any TMDR. Not to suprising I suppose - given the use of samples in his songs. I'd just be interested to see how the data look in a sequencer :-) I hope this opens up a stimulating debate on what is owned by the company and what is distributable by the artist. From what I understand Thomas is one of the lucky ones who did not sell the rights to his songs. The record companies own the recordings but Thomas still owns the songs themselves. If he so wanted to he could go into the studio and re-record and re-release all his tunes and I believe there would be SDA the record companies could do about it. He could also publish his songs as MIDI files if he wanted without interference from the record companies. I think there are some fan-sequenced Dolby MIDI files out there. I seem to recall visiting a Japanese webpage once and the guy had a MIDI file of "She Blinded Me With Science" playing in the background. It wouldn't be that hard to make your own MIDI files of Thomas's music. Crackers (Dolby karaoke time from hell!!!) In Rider-Waite (according to Rachel Pollack's "Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom") this card holds "great truths in a simple design" and draws artists and writers to it :) There are lots of meanings given, one of which is a state of peace, understanding and clarity in the midst of other people's chaotic activity. Another is the achievement of inner clarity by withdrawing from society. My favorite translation is of the individual carrying on being exactly who they are, even if everyone else thinks they've got it all backwards. The reversed meanings have to do with doing what others expect of us, and ignoring our 'inner voice'. The card also has a strong relationship to water. The Hebrew letter Mem is assigned the same number (12) and stands for "seas". When I woke up from this dream and looked this card up in my book, since I'm *far* from knowing what they all mean, I thought it was an interesting card for Dream-Thomas to have chosen! xxx Robin ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Aug 2001 18:11:25 -0700 From: Robyn Moore Subject: Re: Alloy: MIDI data for TMDR ? You've got good taste in sources - I'm a big fan of Rachel Pollack. Have you ever read any of her fiction? If you haven't, you should. :) I should see if I can find any of her Tarot books, as last I knew, they were mostly out of print. I'm glad there were some positive definitions in there - the main reason I don't use Rider/Waite is because it usually has so many "downer" meanings attached to the cards. That's just a personal preference, though. The one about carrying on being yourself regardless of what others think sounds like Thomas to a T. Maybe that's why the Dream-Thomas was worried about the card being reversed. Would you believe that my brother read this to my mom in the hospital just a couple of hours before she passed away? I was mildly appalled, simply because of my use of a certain word not to be heard on network tv. I said to my brother, "Oh, god, Ed - please tell me you cleaned it up a bit?" I don't think any other card in the deck embodies all three. On a different note, something bordering on scary happened with my cards when I went to bed last night, and I swear on all that's sacred that this really happened. Usually before bed, in order to study my cards, I take the deck out and shuffle it all up, and draw one out to see if I remember its meaning. Guess which card was the first one I drew... the Hanged Man! I was so startled, I nearly jumped off the bed.
