I've come across one or two of these 'privacy? hang on I'll run a dictionary search on it' types the last few weeks (as we've talked about offline.) If only these 'gifted individuals' (for the sake of members' email server filters I'm being diplomatic here) would use their powers for good rather than evil - or just plain annoyance or 'Mom! Look! My kitset WM32.MeToo4687 virus appeared on SARC! Can I have /three/ cookies with my milk now?' Call me old school but I'm also miffed at the media's perversion of the once highly respected term 'hackers' when they can't be bothered to use the correct term crackers. Not for a second intended to defame our much treasured fellow of the same name of course! Try not to worry about it; chances are that you've just stumbled across YA script kiddie whose ego got a bit of a reality check by someone 'daring to disagree' with his/her own distorted picture of TFE. I kinda doubt the credibility of someone who makes the claim that they're a hacker in a non hacking/cracking/shady-IT forum or newsgroup. I get the impression that for the real ones it's a little like The Right Stuff in that it's not really talked about nor claimed of one's self in the open. Anyways, even if he/she begins spoofing emails with your address, I'm pretty sure we'll be able to pick your eloquent words apart from his/hers. You're unmistakeably you dear Robin! Paul. You are fantastic. I doubt anyone would get far hassling a member of Alloy, if the situation came up :) However for now I'm glad to say I think my current situaton will blow over. Instead of carrying on calming him like I have been, I let loose on his sorry @ss last night in an absurdly uncharacteristic way, and today he seems placid and literate. It broke the tension because I think that's what he wanted. Give em what they want...(?) This is similar to something that used to work when one of my relatives used to get herself into a state and act out to those around her.. my standing up for myself (always a surprise, especially in those days) would sometimes work to surprise her into a state of calm. Maybe bitchy really *is* better... at least sometimes! Hmmmm. Either way I think I'll just be keeping much more to myself on the 'net from now on, generally..! For Dolby content (at least of a sort)... I've had a truly strange dream this morning, of Thomas looking through my Rider-Waite Tarot cards. I've almost never dreamt of my Tarot cards before so this was really weird. In the dream, Thomas shuffled the deck but was acting as if he didn't really care at first, because as he said, he didn't go in for that stuff. He drew one card, and then shuffled the deck again and drew the exact same card. Then he seemed a little more interested, but only slightly... and kept asking if it was reversed or not. He wondered if this was supposed to be judged from his own perspective or the perspective of the person across from him and it's actually a question i've always wondered about Tarot, so at least I know where that part might have sprung from. xxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Aug 2001 23:05:09 +0100 From: "p.latham2" Subject: Alloy: House Moving Hi Fellow Dolbyites, Unfortunately this will be my last email for a while, as from tonight (11pm now) im taking apart my computer for approx 6-8 weeks whilst im moving to temporary accomodation . We are going to be moving into our new house soon -- its got a roof now and windows - but nothing inside yet , and then Ill be reconnecting. Ill be missing your daily transmissions , I always rush to the computer to see what topic we are on -- anyway speak to you all soon . Oh and ill sign off by mentioning my latest purchase -- that of a recording by Bruce Woolley & his brother - until the band title 'Firmament & the Elements' and their single called ' The Festival of Frothy Muggament' from 1981 -- the sleeve for this has to be one of the best Ive ever seen -- though the Japanese sleeve for the'Blinded By Science ' mini Lp with Thomas walking past the statue is a good one . All the best every one & 'May the Cube be with you'. I've had a truly strange dream > this morning, of Thomas looking through my Rider-Waite Tarot cards Well that's a rather tame Thomas Dolby dream. I had a celebrity dream the other night too but it was rather embarassing. I had a dream that Ricardo Monteban (looking as he did in the original Star Trek episode where he played Khan) was desperately trying to seduce me. His pick-up lines were both embarassing and creepy. "Ah Crackers, your ass. It's so round and firm. I'll bet it is as soft and smooth as rich corinthean leather." I'd lose him and then I'd turn around the corner or open a cupboard and Ricardo would be there "Oh Crackers. I must have you. I MUST!" or "Come with me and together we will build ourselves a brave new world!" Then he'd grab me in his strong, muscular arms and someone would walk in on us and I'd stammer out "It's not what it looks like!!! Dear god! It's NOT what it looks like!!!" They would leave rather shocked and I would chastise Ricardo and tell him to knock it off and he'd go off sulking like a sad puppy only to spring out at me later with a new amorous advance. It was most unsettling. I must say that although Thomas often acts very oddly in my dreams he has to date never tried to seduce me... or compaired my bottom to rich corinthean leather. The whole dream was like some bizarre sitcom episode. I don't even want to begin to analyse what that dream meant. I'm just glad neither one of us were wearing a french maid costume or I'd be really worried. Crackers (Leather bum from hell!!!!!) It's about time the rest of the world got to read your fantastic stuff! I especially liked "the lamest choreography this side of the all-paraplegic staging of Cats." Soon we'll be saying, "I knew her when", auctioning off copies of emails on eBay...Hmm, this sounds like it could be a suggestion for the Site of the Nite on The Screen Savers. Speaking of which, I wasn't going to post this but it was just so damn exciting that I can't help myself. Stephen and I were on the show yesterday! We sat in the Peanut Gallery but because we were behind one of the guests, we ended up with quite a bit of screen time. The thing I find most personally gratifying about the show is that they have quite a few women on it and they aren't just window dressing, they're smart! And they've had Thomas on the show multiple times. What more could I ask for? And Crackers, here's the link I mentioned before: www.celebrity-dream.com Post those dreams now! Oh, and I saw a perfect sissy maid costume for you yesterday at a place where I got a lovely red corset. Or perhaps you'd prefer the PVC nurse's outfit. The cap is a nice touch. Oh, one more thing, BC, I had a great time with you last night. Hope it wasn't too hot for you. ;-) The curry, that is! Gaylord's is becoming the Alloy members hangout in SF, it seems. Congrats again, Melissa! We gotta find you a way to get paid for these gems. At 2pm, the governor decided to shut down all government buildings, including the State University where I work, for the sake of conserving energy. I had to leave the air conditioning and come home to my stifling apartment. Looks like the heatwave will break at around 6am though, with a series of thunderstorms coming in.
