Well luckily my show at this year's Pride Day prepaired me somewhat for it. Although nothing really truly prepairs you for seeing fresh farm produce employed in certain ways. What is the latest news about TMDR and his current projects? Stick around and wait. Robin does an excellent job of keeping us fully informed. Plus, there's Thomas Watch on www.thomasdolby.com. Immediately starting to find posting locations for the photo requests for that infamous night! And may I offer my services as one of the Alloy Los Angeles contingent to personally drive across town (no small feat in LA.. it could be an hour and a half drive!) to pick up any photos that do in fact surface here in town! Standing by to be a part of history! Mark ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 13:08:25 -0400 From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Re: Alloy: Poor Crackers!! I'd thought the idea was to look pretty, or to look like the most outrageous stereotype of a woman as is humanly possible. Where does farm produce come into it? (no... FORGET I asked!!!) My favorite line from 'I Shot andy Warhol'... when a friend asks a drag queen when she gets her period. The drag queen replies.. "I have it every day... I'm such a woman." xxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 15:39:03 -0400 From: "Chris & Beena Cracknell" Subject: Re: Alloy: Poor Crackers!! - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robin Thurlow" > oh.. A winner is you! Well a number of things, not the least of which is my webcomic, have been keeping me very busy as hell lately and I haven't done a lot of actual "pleasure surfing". I never did get around to actually checking out what exactly a "Tommie Award" is and now it looks like I missed out on a bit of fun. Visited Thomas's webpage for the first time in ages and was pleased with new additions to the page. I'll definetly be returning each month to check out the Thomas Remembers section as it was very interesting. I noticed in the "Tommie Awards" my cover of NuVogue was appearently voted "Best cover of a Thomas Dolby song by another artist." So I guess I'd like to say, "I'd like to thank Thomas, the Academy, Alloy, and all the little people out there. You like me! You really, really like me!" No seriously, I was flaberghasted. Of course it brought to mind the question, apart from the Project B-day recordings, how many covers of Thomas's songs have been recorded? As I alluded to up above, the Thomas Remembers section was a real joy to read. Nice to see some of the interesting road stories from the "starving artist" era of his career. I took a look at that Transcendent 2000 synth you started with Thomas. Looks kinda similar to the Micro Moog in a way. Very interesting looking piece of historical music gear. Any recordings of yours where we'd be able to hear this synth employed? Do you still have this wee beastie today? I'm having a hard time making everything out on my monitor. Looks like a two oscilator mono synth possibly with independent filters for each oscilator? What are your feelings on that beastie? Was it a case of "I bought it at the time because it was all I could afford" or was there a quality to the synth that actually attracted you to it? Incidently, how much of your "early days" gear do you still own? I seem to recall reading an interview once where you mentioned you still own your JP4 and that it's in your home in England and you muck with it on visits back to your homeland. Are the Transcendent and MicroMoog still in your possession? Crackers (Old lab equipment from hell!!!!!!)
