Hi all..

Although I generally lurk..reading with great enjoyment the postings but 
lacking much time to respond..  I now feel obliged to come out of my cave and 
send in a couple of comments.  I've been away for a month without much chance 
to check my E.. so I have only now had the opportunity to go through nearly 
500.. the majority of which are from Alloy.  It was certainly fun .. albiet a 
bit time consuming.. to read all the news at once. 

First of all.. I hope that all of you that had hospital stays are now on the 
rapid road to successful recovery!!  

Secondly.. a belated Happy Birthday to Robyn!  And of course the same to Andy 
and Jon.. I'm pleased to share the day with others from Alloy!  Interesting 
that three of us here have the same birthday.  What could it mean??  
Crackers.. have you a theory?

Meanwhile.. the shock of my day was the incredible interview with Mr. Dolby!  
Jon.. you have done an outstanding job of not only securing the interview but 
also making it so personally interesting to all of us with your questions 
from other Alloyeds.  I have read many interviews with various artists..  but 
this one made me feel as if I were sitting right there too.. listening in.  I 
can't wait for the next installment!  

The part about Thomas walking onto stage with Bowie and surprising his 
friends and collegues was priceless!  What great fun that must have been for 
him!  I found myself laughing aloud at the thought of their faces as they saw 
him.  What a great story!

Also.. I really thought your dedication to preserving that joystick for your 
father was great.   Creative and inspiring..  my compliments!

And now for something quite off topic:  My absence from E-mail was the result 
of trip to Italy to work on a film there.  We shot in Sardegna.. and even 
shot a few days 100 meters underground in a mine.  I worked on this film as 
the Assistant Director.. which is basically the eye of the tornado on a film 
set.  And since I am fluent in Italian..  I was working in two languages at 
once.  It was quite a challenge.. but we got it done on time as planned.. 
whew!

Afterward.. I took a much needed vacation in Rome.  What an amazing city!  I 
have always loved Rome.. and this time I had a week to enjoy it with new 
friends from the crew and some of the cast from the film that stayed on for a 
few days too.  In addition.. the football club (Soccer for all you Nord 
Americanos) of Rome won the national championship that week.. so the city was 
a total party all week long.. cars with flags and honking their horns.. 
creating traffic jams.. and culminating in a huge celebration on Sunday at 
the "Circo Massimo" .. the ancient site for horse and chariot races.  The 
estimated crowd was 1.5 million people.. and I went primarily for the 
spectacle of seeing these modern Roman Soldiers.. all carrying banners and 
flags and wearing red jerseys to celebrate the first Rome championship in 18 
years.  It was an amazing sight.. and well worth the wade through the crowd 
to a vantage point where I could see the sea of red dressed humanity.  
Unfortunately my camera had been stolen from my bag when I first arrived in 
Italy.. so the images will have to stay in my brain.  As I watched, chanted 
cheers would erupt and spread across the crowd like wildfire across a 
prairie.. and then would culminate with flag waving abandon and a quick 
launch into the short song..  "Siamo noi.. siamo noi.. I campioni d'Italia 
siamo noi.."  In other words.. "We are the champions!"  With all due respect 
to Mr. Mercury et al.. these people were not only singing but they were 
living their song!  Que scena!!    

Since I have been to Rome many times.. I left the sightseeing to the other 
crew members.. and instead had some fun visiting old friends and just 
relaxing with a morning cappuccino or afternoon gelato.  I had planned to 
also spend a few days in Milano, where I used to live.. but instead decided 
that it would be much more enjoyable to celebrate my birthday in Roma.  So I 
finished up the trip with a dinner for 17 on a restaurant boat anchored in 
the Tevere river which runs right through the heart of the city.  It was the 
last occasion for many of us in the crew to meet up before heading on to 
other locations or productions.  Working on a film together really does 
create a family.. with all its positive and negative potential.  
Fortunately.. the negatives on this film were minimal.. and the dinner was 
purely positive.. ending in a nice happy birthday toast with some prosecco.  
Ahh.. what a great way to live!  

Returning to Los Angeles is quite an emotional adjustment.. but I am here for 
a reason.. and that is to find the next project to take me away once again!  
Perhaps Brazil this time???  I hope I haven't wandered too far off topic or 
bored you with the details.

Hi,

Slarvs HMV Adult Creche - How sensible! -  much laughter this end :-)

I saw in a magazine yesterday that Nik Kershaw has shaved all his hair
off and now has one of those matchbox sized bits on the front of his
chin where he hasn't shaved......unless he slipped when polishing his
shoes ..... thats what it looked like.....:-)

No offence meant.
