A "Camera Club" is a group of amature photographers who all chip in to hire a model for a day to pose (often nude) for them and they all gather around her and take pictures. > 7) I wondered what happened to Thomas Dolbys portastudio ?.....I presume > it was the old TEAC/TASCAM 144 jobby...... I think it was a reel-2-reel if I remember correctly, only 2 tracks that he ping-ponged with a Micro Moog and a Weltmeister electric piano for instruments. I seem to remember that from an interview somewhere. And yes, if Thomas ever has a garage sale to get rid of old music gear count me in. What can't be fixed can be used to build something new. > 8) Nice qoute about people still discussing his music on the newsgroups Notice how he failed to mention we also discuss picture of him in drag and Dolby inspired erotica. Heheheheheheh. Well okay... how I discuss it. > 10) and most importantly.......As a huge admirer of TMDRS engineering > / aranging/ production skills I was pleased to hear him suggest that > 2 of Princes albums were worth a listen. I just love your wicked sense of humour Thomas. Crackers (Giggling like a schoolgirl from hell!!!) Betty Page was the favorite of the NYC camera clubs of the 1950s because she was very professional in her handling of the photo shoots, expressive in her gestures and extremely photogenic, and nude poses were not something that bothered her when they were requested. She even went to jail a couple of times for having posed nude, something that she (and other models) considered a terrible breech of her constitutional rights to free expression in a private setting, amongst adults. > Hope your migraines better Robin. They *are* better in fact... at least prettier. After four years of these i've just seen my first 'aura'... (pretty yellow-gold geometric flowery thing blossoming outward very rapidly before my eyes) immediately followed by the sensation of being smacked across the head with a cricket bat (that part wasn't as pretty!) I see why people thought migraneurs were somewhat mystical back in the old days. At the very least i can say (and *do* say) that I have migraines and student loans instead of children. > > 10) and most importantly.......As a huge admirer of TMDRS engineering > / aranging/ production skills I was pleased to hear him suggest that > 2 of Princes albums were worth a listen. I hope the interviews are all archived there officially..! and any elaborations on the content which Thomas might like to make. The topics touched on are extremely interesting. I think Thomas and Jon C make a great interview team! xxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2001 00:47:18 -0400 From: Merujo Subject: Alloy: OT - Cool Encounters of a Cruise Kind Hey, folks, This is way OT, but... when I got to work today, I had a hell of a time getting a parking space. I saw all sorts of funky trucks around the building, but I was clueless. One of the parking attendants told me, "Oh, Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise are shooting a movie here this week." I just about freaked. Tom Cruise - okay, whatever, but Steven Spielberg?!?! WOW!!! I knew that they were making Minority Report together (based, I believe on a work by Philip K. "Blade Runner" Dick - another dark future movie...) It was pretty funky - the film crew had pretty much taken over most of the Ronald Reagan federal building. (In fact, I had a heck of a time getting into my office because anywhere you walked was in the shot...) I got to watch Spielberg directing some scenes, and I saw Tom Cruise, who was friendly, smiling, and waving to our little band of gov't geeks hovering at the edges... My colleague Liza and I are meeting early at the office for breakfast tomorrow, so we can hang out and see what's being filmed that day. Spielberg stopped to speak with people - I'm hoping to get a chance to thank him for Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close Encounters, Jaws, hell - many of the best movies of my childhood! I'm just so pleased that I got to see him doing what he does - from about 20 feet away. It was very, very cool.
