Now to use this power for good... and by "good" I mean "my own personal gain". > (checked out ghastly on the weekend, very funny - great work there > Crackers!) Thanks! I found a kick-ass review of my webcomic on the net too. My counter has a feature to tell my what webpages have links to my webpage on them and I always check them out and this one had a review of a bunch of webcomics. Mine fared pretty well. http://users.bigpond.net.au/experiment/comics.htm - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - - Ghastly's Ghastly Comic **** Writer: Ghastly, AKA Crackers. Ghastly is the most consistently bizarre, funny, creative man I have ever encountered online. He surpasses even me. This comic of his is a new development - and as usual, its funny. Artwork:****. Ghastly apparrently pencils in, scans, CG's and then uploads. Two of those steps seem to be lacking in great numbers of online comics, namely the CGing and the drawing. I mean, you could hardly call most of Keenspace art, could you? Ghastly's work, however, is appropriate for his comic. Kooky, spooky. Characters: Nort, Glemph - two tentacled mosters from outer space. Nort is ecchi, whereas Glemph refrains from tentacle rape. Kiki, however, is a human all for it. Style: Comic-like. Truly. Best Part:The octopus saying "Dude! Shut up!". Read it and you'll see what I mean. Worst part: Hmmm. Like sinfest, sexylosers, and sluggy, this one is hard to pick on. The jokes are good. the art is good. The plot seems to be there (with only 4 or 5 in print as of this review). So...the lack of them! That's BAD. - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - - > 'there's something not quite right about [watching] reading porn > over breakfast...' That quote is from "Exploitation Now". Wow, I must be becoming a webcomic Otaku if I can tag quotes from them. Of course like everything else on the net, 99.98% of them are crap but there are a few really good ones out there. From that review I recently got turned on to "Sluggy Freelance", and it was "Sexy Losers" that inspired me to make a webcomic in the first place. Infact my favorite wecomics would be... Sexy Losers http://www.sexylosers.com (hentai) Sluggy Freelance http://www.sluggy.com Penny Arcade http://www.penny-arcade.com Exploitation Now http://www.exploitationnow.com (sometimes hentai) T.A. Vision http://tav.keenspace.com/index.html (hentai) Tang's Weekly Comic http://tang.keenspace.com Sunday Morning Coffee http://smc.keenspace.com (hentai) Red Meat http://www.redmeat.com Red Meat was the very first webcomic I was ever introduced to. A band mate e-mailed me a strip. (First Panel) Bug Eyed Earl: I bought a beat up old rocker at the goodwill the other day for $250. (Second Panel) Bug Eyed Earl: (his blank bug eyed stare) (Third Panel) Bug Eyed Earl: I think his name was Eddy Money. I almost piddled laughing. There's something wonderfully creepy about Max Cannon's comics. I particularily like the quaint piece of americana gone wrong "Milkman Dan". Do they even have Milkmen anymore? I remember there being a Milkman when I was a kid but I know there isn't one anymore in the town I grew up in. Sexy Losers, SMC, TA Vision, and Tang's Weekly I enjoy because they're parodies of the Japanese manga style (as is my comic, really). Penny Arcade is my token "Game Geek" comic. One of many in the genre but one that stands out head and shoulders above the rest. Sluggy Freelance has neat, twisted story lines that weave in and out of the comics. And you gotta love Bun Bun. Sinfest is like Calvin and Hobbes meets Bloom County on crack. There are probably lots of other great comics out there buried under the flood of mediocrity and out and out crap. I tried one night after starting my own webcomic to read at least one webcomic of each author on Keenspace. I didn't make it too far down the list before I felt like my head was going to implode. Right now this webcomic thing of mine seems to be taking up most of my online creative talents. It's a lot of fun. More fun than H-pics and Lemons were. Of course like many of my creative projects only time will tell if it becomes an infatuation or an obsession. If anyone else out there has ever considered doing one I'd say "go for it". It's a lot of fun and you don't have to worry about sucking because there are so damn many webcomics out there that even if you totally blow you'll still likely be better than thousands of them. Hey! Maybe Thomas will make us a Beatnik Enhanced webcomic! I wonder if Thomas draws? Crackers (That would be SO cool from hell!!!) Is the mainstream stuff just geared > to the lowest common denominator? Nah, I just think - like any other filmmaking - the creators of the films are somewhat afraid of straying from an imagined 'ideal' of what has sold in the past. But to me, for example, all the people look very posed, all the occurences seem planned (overplanning is *not* sexy, in any context), it's too brightly lit (much of the fun is in the mind... so the films featuring people lit up as if on an airport runway just come across as not quite 'it'), and all the closeups look merely medical. Maybe it's having grown up with access to my parents' medical texts making it seem like this to me! In addition, the people look bored, you know... just another day at work. Real passion and excitement are missing. Real, distinctive individuals are important too. There is all sorts of beauty in the world... not just that of superatheltic overly-worked-out bodies, plastic surgery and suntans that are always shown. I know for a fact that the following isn't true of the individuals in the films necessarily, but this overly worked out look makes me imagine the person has nothing to do with their time other than working out and looking in the mirror, and it's a turn-off. People with a lot of variety of interest, intelligence, and an individualistic appearance are always fascinating and sexy to me. One more thing is, I just don't find sex particularly shocking or 'naughty'... it's simply normal and healthy. Let's just say the film version could never live up to the thrill and fun of even simply being out on a great evening with someone who just thrills and entices the mind. For me it's all about the individual. Quite a list eh? Anyway to try to make this at least a tiny bit on topic (and I'm very sorry to everyone for straying so far from the subject of Thomas Dolby and his music specifically!!) I think my love of variety and individuality extends to all areas of my life.. and this does include my musical taste in fact. I can say one thing.. I have had a killer migraine all day & the lovely meds are making me very drifty and talkative about this, more so than I would normally be I think. I should leave this as it is, fascinating topic though I think. Is the mainstream stuff just geared > to the lowest common denominator Is there really any mystery here? Pornos are boring for a number of reason. 1) Horrible, horrible acting. I mean if any of them were decent actors do you think they'd be doing porn? 2) Horrible to non existant writing. Hello, where is the plot? 3) Terrible cinematography. Jeeze lousie, can we not get a little creative with the camera there? 4) A soundtrack that makes you want to poke out your eardrums with an icepick. Is it the law that all pornos must employ the crappiest canned music possible. At least 70's porn has the campy wah-wah pedal porn funk going for it. But man, 80's and 90's porn music is just awful. It's either the cheesiest of band-in-a-box synth crap or it's Kenny G on 'ludes. To be hounest I think it would be better to have no music in the porn. Let's face it, there's nothing there to keep me interested in porn beyond the point where PeeWee gets arrested. After that I lose interest big time. Erotic fiction on the other hand, if well written (which is pretty freakin' rare but it happens from time to time) can be very.... stimulating. I really don't know why anyone would buy/rent a porno. If you really want a quick visual fix to get off on there's plenty available for download off the internet. Download the money shot, watch the money shot, PeeWee gets arrested and you're done with it. Then you don't have to sit through painful dialogue like: "Gosh Tiffany, your hair smells great." "Thanks Stephany, you look real pretty. I miss my boyfriend." "Thanks, I miss your boyfriend too." Now some of the Japanese hentai anime can be interesting because 1) there's usually a story at the base of it all. 2) You never have to wonder if a drawing is only doing it to support their crack habbit. 3) Sometimes the music is even good. 4) Japanese women sound much cuter when they fake orgasm than North American women do. So as you can see, it's not just a girl thing. There are guys (I know I'm not alone) who find porno movies just as boring as you do. Well... actually we find it varies from interesting to intensely interesting then all of a sudden we lose interest in it completely. Crackers (Has never watched a complete porno from hell!!!)
