Morning all, Paul wrote: > Yes, I've been know to imbibe the odd glass of it on occasion > too. Very good pick! Yes, it was so good I ending up draining the whole bottle... I was sorely tempted to open another but luckily I was 'momentarily distracted' by a deep sleep! You'll have come down from Brisbane!!! Hello! What about me coming over from Finland! This is the kind of oppo that comes up with about the same frequency as months with a q in them. When I was staying in Sydney a couple of years back I was in vino-heaven. An average bottle of Australian wine costs unbelievably MORE to the consumer in Australia than it does in the UK!! But the selection is huge in comparison. Mmmm. A lot of the smaller producers simply get completely consumed by the national or even local market so the precious stuff never makes it out of the country. I have a friend who's parents have a couple of houses in the south of France where I used to go on vacation every year until I moved to Finland. There is a small producing area called La Clape (fortunately non-contagious!) which is deliciously consistent. It is sandwiched between Fitou and Corbierre for those in the know. The area is about the size of Penfolds parking-lot and I've never seen the stuff anywhere else. Wonderful. Like many things in life you have to go there - regardless of where the where is. Now this XTC thread has really fascinated me: Jon Wrote: > you are correct. it's detailed in the xtc "song stories" > book (which i have read cover to cover about 10 times, it's fascinating!) That's definitely on my reading list now then. I have quite a collection of musical biographies but not this one. There is nothing more consuming than reading about the development of songs and careers than when you are simultaneously listening to the music. - - So this is just another case where Thomas has been used as a pawn for a music industry asshole then. I wonder if Thomas had been consulted in advance. How did the performance go Jon? Do tell! So it's fathers day today. Congratulations all you dads out there. Fathers day in Finland is a couple of months earlier for some reason so I don't get pampered today unfortunately. On the subject of fathers and ebay and coincidences I've an interesting little tale to tell about something that happened recently. My dad spent several years in the RAF as a tech working on Canberra jet bombers in the 50's. I was dragging the net a few months ago when I found someone offering a pilots stick-grip from a Canberra bomber on ebay. This is the control stick that the pilot flies the plane with and contains the bomb release, gun controls, intercom and flap control buttons etc. As my dad is a dedicated flight simulator nut I came up with the idea of buying it and converting a PC joystick so that it used the 'real' Canberra grip. Well, a $250 bidding war later I had it in my possession and then went out and bought a suitable PC joystick off the shelf at a computer store and began the conversion. I asked my dad a few cryptic questions in order to get some answers to questions that I needed to complete the project and he points me in the direction of a book about the aeroplane which I then eventually find. In this book there is a complete history of all the aircraft of this type and potted histories if their lives. When I look up WH957 from whence the control grip came, I find that this was one of the aircraft that belonged to my dads squadron based at RAF Binbrook in Lincolnshire! From on our conversations I deduce that he must have worked on this aircraft in about 1957/58. This will be presented to him (when I finally finish it...) on his birthday in October and I cannot wait to see the expression on his face! This has got to be the worlds most expensive PC joystick - ever! but I am absolutely convinced that it will also be the best and most unique too. Something TMDR related happened to me a few days ago but I'm still so freaked by it I can't explain yet. Maybe later. It's a small world thanks to the internet. > (Something something) super dooper pooper > (Something something something)-dad > No panales, (something something) > (Something) felicidad... Oh Beth! Aint it criminal! My family are away for the weekend but could I sleep this morning? The one weekend in aeons that there have been no Oskar-related disturbances and I end up getting up at 7:30 to work on my dads birthday present... Normally at 7:30 on a Sunday morning my wife and I would be having a heated conversation along the lines of Get-up! No, you get up! and so on. > Can I put my name for that one as well, and if I should > happen to end up with the prize, I share it with Keith? :-) If more than one person guesses correctly lots will be drawn to decide the winner. Sharing could be tricky. What would you like the CD or the box? I suppose I could saw it into pieces ;o) hehe. > (To be honest, I forgot what the prize was -- I'm just in it > for the fun of it.) It is a signed copy of the Hyperactive compilation. (signed by Thomas himself naturally - not by me!) > But anyone who finds him/herself in Sonoma > County is invited to have a private tour and tasting...even > you, Paul! ;-) > > Mary, employee of the Kendall-Jackson empire - now with an Australian > president Wow! there must be a q in the month! Where is Sonoma County then Mary? I guess it is in CA but where? > I have to giggle silly now at something I and only I know so > just ignore me. > > Crackers > (Tee hee from hell!!!!!!) You weren't alone Crackers but I would never have believed how the story would pan-out. It just goes to shown that there are no stupid questions - just stupid answers. I have only just realised that all the Andy Partridge-related Thomas songs are on my favourites list. I must get replacements for my old XTC LP's that I last heard about 15 years ago. I too now have Generals and Majors stuck in my head since yesterday morning. Thanks Robin! BTW what is your guess Crackers? The turnout is now creeping up to 30% and the result will be published in Mondays digest so if you haven't done so yet cast your opinion. Hi all, An interesting little item I came across (oh err!) just now while updating some stuff on my site. From Lene's tour diary for 1980; March 9th - Day off in New Haven. Boredom leads to Bruce Wooley home porn movies. Now I believe that Bruce Wooley was support for the US part of this tour. I wonder if Tom was involved somewhere? People were always getting Lene mixed up with a well know porn star so maybe there's some truth in it after all - allegedly? - -- 'til the next time, Chris (Room 1 - Blue Hotel) - --- Blue Hotel's HOME on the Web - http://www.bluehotel.co.uk News - Reviews - Discography - Biography - Pix - Lyrics - Links - more ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2001 22:17:05 -0600 From: "Beth Meyer" Subject: Re: Alloy: XTC, the competition, ebay and the kind of coincidences thatyou don't want to think about to deeply...
