Damn damn damn! Sean: I made a mistake here. Tim had not voted for windpower I just screwed up. Please let me know which you would like. You can have either Windpower or Radio Silence. BTW. Just for clarification again: If someone has already voted for your choice you can also choose it and then in the event of it being correct the winner will be chosen by lottery. Todays status is: Airwaves: Jon Windpower: Sean*, Robin One of our Submarines Andy Cloudburst at Shingle St. Trevor Urges: Melissa Radio Silence Sean* Europa Tim Don't turn away Ian Commercial Breakup Paul, Russell Sean will choose between Windpower and Radio Silence. I remember reading an article back in 1984 from Thomas where he explained about this song. Maybe I dreamt it but I'm sure that this is about Keith stuck in the bleakness of Milton Keynes, which for those not in the know is a 'new' town built from scratch in the 70's smack in the middle of green fields. Milton Keynes was designed in a strange shape with streets radiating out of central boulevards with underground walkways and the like... Whether it is the shape of an octahedron I don't know. I'll dig through my archive 'next chance I get and see if I have the article in question. I originally also thought this was referring to White City in London. Maybe I dreamt this all! Blimey, we are a bunch of performers aren't we. Good luck to you too Jon! BTW, does anyone know of the whereabouts of Phil Louie who asked the original Thomspon Twins question. I sent him a mail telling what was going on but, unsurprisingly his e-mail address from 1997 doesn't work anymore... It would be a shame if he - of all people - missed it. Out Jon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 04:53:00 -0400 From: "Michael & Denise Luckey" Subject: Alloy: Contest A very interesting thread here indeed! I was going to say "Commercial Breakup" as well but since two people have already chosen it I'll go with "She Blinded Me With Science". My main reasoning being that the original GAOW did not feature either of these songs and they came on board on the subsequent re-release of the album (bumping out "Urges" and "Leipzig") which makes me think they were perhaps intended for someone else. I really can't think of a song by TMDR that makes me think of the Twins since Thomas' style is uniquely his own! M.L. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 20:03:59 +1000 From: Paul Baily Subject: Alloy: Contest FWIW, my pick would be My Brain is Like a Sieve. A little out of left field I know, but it's the one song that comes to me when I think of Thompson Twins' style, (why does 'Wedding Singer' keep getting lit up in neon in my mind?) and yet it has the classic Dolby eloquence that only the Gentleman could do justice. cheers, Paul. Well, as penance, you have to go to www.ALTROK.com and click on *all* the links! (That decides whether we live or die, you know.) And you've gotta buy a T-shirt, too. Actually, using the method I used over at CafePress.com, it'd likely be very easy to make up Alloy t-shirts. Anyone got an idea for an image? Of course it'd be nice if we had permission to use it... I feel pretty strongly about Windpower, so I'll stick with that. However, since I was the first to pick it, whoever picks Radio Silence will also get... - An opportunity to buy an ALTROK T-shirt. - And a boot to the head. (Optional.) Please note: Normally I'm not this mercenary, but I'm kinda proud of the site. Feel free to tell me I'm deluded, though. Iconoclasts and dreamers like me sometimes need a good smack upside the head. - -Sean > > Sean wrote: > > > Did I miss Tim's choice of Windpower before I made mine? > > Darn...I think that's the winner, too. > > > > Oh, well...I'll choose Radio Silence then, because there's a > > female vocal on both recorded versions, and again, much trading of > > "voices" (ultimately> served by Thomas overdubbing himself.) > > Damn damn damn! It is more that I composed all of the music and it is a musical. I am doing press and getting great reviews on the Album which is now complete, so that is no problem. I think what I am most afraid of is THEATRE CRITICS!! My first critical review will come out tomorrow in a magazine called "SCENE" by a woman named Patricia Black. She came to one of the dress rehearsals (pre-tech) and I am a little anxious about that. Otherwise I think it should be cool. We are having a gala opening next Wednesday with the wine and cheese reception and the like and I am gonna have to get spruced up as one of the plays "Big Cheese" types. Oh Boy Oh Boy!!! This is gonna be fun. Thanks for the ideas you two... anyone else got any relaxation ideas?? DOn't worry Jon... a big fat joint will most likely be on the agenda right after the opening night performance.... I have been holding off on that for a while now and think I am truly ready for one ;) Cheers all, Ian _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 09:10:48 -0700 From: Jon Drukman Subject: Re: Alloy: Fear (was: Dolby/Thompson Twins Contest) At 10:30 AM 6/13/2001 -0400, Ian Gifford wrote: >I think what I am most afraid of is THEATRE CRITICS!! I have been holding off on that >for a while now and think I am truly ready for one ;) yes i woke up terribly early this morning. tonight's my big night and i guess i am a little jittery. even though i am quite prepared, i like to do my shows with a lot of improvisation (what's the point of just coming out and hitting play on a sequencer) so there is ample opportunity for me to crash and burn. :) a big fat smoke is in my future tonight... - -jsd- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 15:36:26 -0400 From: Merujo Subject: Re: Alloy: Fear (was: Dolby/Thompson Twins Contest) Read Spaulding Gray's "Swimming to Cambodia." He had this tremendous fear of swimming in the open ocean when visiting Phuket (looking for A Perfect Moment.) He was afraid sharks were gonna eat him. So, he transferred his fear to something else. He left his wallet, watch, and all sitting on the beach in plain sight, and, he was so worried about someone stealing his stuff, he forgot about his water fears and had an awesome time. Okay, so I don't recommend leaving your valuables out to be stolen, but the concept works for me. :-) Cheers, Melissa ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 00:42:13 -0400 From: "Chris & Beena Cracknell" Subject: Alloy: Shameless plug and proud of it.
