["doughboy" ] Re: Alloy: Re: Hunger Strike, Day 1. ["Robin Thurlow" Subject: Alloy: Stealing technology via electronic evesdropping? This ones about USA and UK spying together and has nothing to do with Thomas except that it fits in vaguely with our cold war discussions and is concerning internet technology. I appologise if this is considered off message but I thought it was interesting. Some time ago I had a freeby mail account with a silly name Justin_Credible and all went well until one day I joked with a friend that I was only using the email service for illegal and subversive purposes. OK perhaps a stupid thing to say and make a joke about but hey it was a joke right ? !! The next day my account was blocked and I lost all access to it. Even my requests for help from the support team got ignored. It might have been a coincidence but it was just as if someone had read my email and taken my joke literally. So when I heard about this news story it was quite interesting. I wonder if any of you have had similar spooky things happen? If you visit this site below: do take a look at the links on the top right hand side: These are the other related stories on who is spying on who and chart the development of what is now growing to be a big row. I like the fact that these popmpous EU politicians were 'dissed and dismmissed' by the CIA - lets face it - they're probably just jealous that the UK and USA can work like this together. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/europe/newsid_1325000/1325186.stm Dont forget the links at the top on the right hand side which detail the development of the story. Appologies for being off message and Orwellian. Now something silly to end with: 'ra ra - Tom Dolby - Russias Greatest Love Machine' told you it was silly... Boney M came from Germany but what does the M stand for ? I think Boney Maroney but whats that all about anyhow? Ive got a friend called boney maroney...... Q sax riff.... THey have an album available called "Boot to the >Head". It has two of my favorite sketches ever one called "I shit a piece >of Pie" and one called "Make up Dirty Words" and then a song called "I >shot Bambis Mother" which I sing all the time "... and now the deer all >hate me... thumper too!! Greenpeace now berates me and.... Disney plans to >sue..." Looks like we've got a lot of Frantics fans here at Alloy. ;) Both Kevin and I became fans from hearing their work on Dr. Demento over the years. Both versions of "Boot To The Head", "Bill from Bala", and "I Shot Bambi's Mother" are fairly popular requests still. We trend a little more towards the martial arts version - OW! He booted me in the head! can often be heard if we're killed playing computer games. I scared up a copy of "Boot To The Head" on eBay a couple years ago as a Yule present for him, and it's become an all-time favourite. "Make up Dirty Words" has become an ongoing joke too...all that talk about functioning and areas. How about "Architecture Today"? I've never looked at the CN tower in quite the same way since hearing this one. ;) >They also did a whole whack of TV Shows called "Four on the Floor" in the >80's. They contained the famous boot to the head sketches and ideas for >video games based on real life things. One of the fellows is now the >nephew on "The Red Green Show" I believe. I've always wanted to see "Four on the Floor". According to the channel's website, The Comedy Network in Canada shows it on Saturdays, but I don't think they have a US feed, so I'm out of luck. :( Actually, Patrick McKenna plays the nephew, Harold. Rick Green plays Bill, who's the mega-klutz that only shows up in the home movie segments. He also directs, produces and writes for the show. I wish he had a speaking part - I've always found his voice interesting. >The first one I ever heard was the "last will..." and I think I almost >cried I was laughing so hard. > >Hey on a side note... has anyone ever seen the 60's cartoon version of >spiderman?? I found out that a Cousin of mine (through marriage) was >actually the voice of him. I also found out that He is playing "SHylock" >in "Merchant of Venice" at Stratford this year! Paul Soles is the name and >I met him last year at a family reunion. Very nice man! Any old cartoon >buffs out there? And if there are can you remind me.... Did Thomas do the >soundtrack to Fern Gully? "Spider-Man, Spider-Man...does whatever a spider can..." Yeah, I watch way too many cartoons for my own good. You're related to Paul Soles? How cool for you! Between Spider-Man and Hermey the Dentist from Rudolph, he's a pop-culture legend at least twice over. I know that Thomas did some of the soundtrack work for Ferngully, but the version of the soundtrack with his work on it seems to be a bit scarce. Amazon only has a listing for the Silvestri version. Just an announcement for everyone's information: I'm extremely pleased to announce that Alloy's founder and original list manager, Paul Baily, has very generously agreed to look after things at Alloy while I'm away for the next ten days. I'll hopefully be checking in while in Edinburgh but I'm not sure how steady my access will be, so he will be here to answer your questions and help out with any problematic situations should any occur. For the interest of those just joining us, you'll find information about Alloy @ the Alloy FAQ: http://www.robinthurlow.addr.com/AlloyFAQpage.htm Also, just a little pointer about message length, since the server cannot process messages longer than 7000 characters. These messages will be bounced to me, and while I'll be able to process them through once I gain access to a computer, I will likely not be able to access every day. If you should send a long message in and it doesn't appear in the posts, this may well be the reason. You may try to resend it in two parts. One of the primary reason a message ends up being too long is that a member might respond to their alloy-digest subscription, and forget to remove the "original message" which is the entire digest all over again :) If this is the case, and your message hasn't gone through, simply resend without the recopied digest attached to your response, or just edit the digest to reflect the portion to which you're responding. I rarely receive bounces, so I doubt the problem will come up over the next ten days.. but I thought I'd tell you of a couple of options in case you've posted a longer post (which I of course encourage... the more chatting the better I say!) and your post doesn't show up immediately. Thanks everyone, I know you'll love having Paul around a bit more these days! Please take care & I'll see you again soon. I'm off to make my Dolby airplane tape, and another for the coach ride from London to Edinburgh, while I sew a new case for my travel pillow. I'll be back with lots of cool pictures. All of my family and friends are asking me to send them 'creepy postcards', so I'll get a few of those to scan in too, as a record of my trip for those who are interested. be well everyone, xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 22:23:24 -0400 From: Merujo Subject: Re: Alloy: while I'm away...
