It seems our expected son is a bit too anxious to get out into the world - -- I keep telling my rather large tummy, "Hey, it's cold and bright out here and you actually have to WORK to eat," but does he listen? Anyway, being briefly out of bed on a Saturday, I had to share a few thoughts on recent threads: I don't think I had ever doubted that Melissa's mom was one of the coolest people to ever walk the planet, but the "boot to the head" story certainly confirmed that. Fortunately for the human race, Melissa seems to be carrying on the coolness tradition admirably. :-) I've heard the "Ti Kwan Leep" sketch (in which the venerable master keeps serenely administering a boot to the head of the obnoxious novice who just wants to learn how to beat people up) but must acquire a copy of that "Last Will" sketch now. Regarding all those all-80's radio stations that Melissa found on her road trip, that inspired a thought that I've been meaning to bring up to the list since the holidays. We went to the Sarasota, Florida area to visit family, and there Mark found an interesting new radio station format. It was all heavy metal oldies. A sampling of the bands you'd hear might include Quiet Riot, Blue Oyster Cult, Queensryche, Ratt, lots of Def Leppard, and of course a smattering of Led Zeppelin. I thought this was a pretty unique radio station format, but it seemed to be popular enough. That got Mark and I speculating about what other interesting radio station formats we could think of. My first suggestion was all 70's "concept rock" or "art rock" -- David Bowie, Yes, the more cerebral Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, etc. You could probably throw in a little late 60's psychedelia too ("In-a-Gadda-da-Vida" would be an excellent choice). Only problem would be fitting in the commercials between those 7-minute songs. Anyone have any other thoughts? And finally, in response to a very old thread, my nomination for the worst lyric of all time has got to be: (drum roll please) "My blood's so mad, it feels like coagulating" From "Eve of Destruction" (but I seem to have understandably blocked out the name of the artist) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 17:14:32 -0400 From: Beth Meyer Subject: Alloy: Whoops Sorry, forgot to sign that last post, as I suddenly had to dash -- that would be from me, Beth bethmeyer@mindspring.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 22:40:22 -0400 From: Merujo Subject: Re: Alloy: A mile in their shoes Hey, Jon! Thanks so much for this information - this will make an AWESOME birthday present for a friend next month (who, ironically, was born on June 6 - a D-Day baby.)
