Whoa! I would love to hear that, Commercial Breakup is a favorite of mine from GAOW and I believe it has been truly under-rated by some. When I have had GAOW discussions in the past it has rarely been mentioned by anyone. I love it and quite regularly slip the CD into the machine, play it and then put something else on. There are not too many tracks that I do that with but I find it such an uplifting song about such a depressing subject. Where and how did you get said item? Incidentally: If anyone has their theories about the meaning behind Commercial Breakup I would be interested to hear them. I think that the subject is quite clear but there are some real anomalies in there skulking with the obvious. > Anyway - hope ive not bored you & hope that you will welcome > me into your world. I have never had the pleasure of experiencing a live performance by Thomas in person, either, though I really enjoy the concert footage I have seen (Live Wireless, The Wall ~ Live in Berlin, recent webcasts etc) One day, maybe...! I would drop everything, and fly to the ends of the earth, to attend a show of Thomas' work live. I love reading about the performance stuff he used to do as a young artist with his projections and all the tapes and computers. Wish I'd been around for that!! xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 09:38:09 +0300 From: jonathan.chiddick@nokia.com Subject: Alloy: Another bares all of the list! Hi Kathleen, > second I would ask him if he ever will get back to making music again, especially > putting music to a clip or flick like Gate to the Mind's Eye. Well gotta get some sleep. What a great question and one that is on all our lips. I doubt he has ever stopped making music for more than 15 mins in his entire adult life but when I we going to get a piece of the action? That's the pertinent quetsion isn't it. I am in Helsinki and can say with 100% accuracy that I WOULD drop everything and fly ANYWHERE for the chance to catch a live concert. I too, like so many others, never saw Thomas perform live and it is with all probability something that will also now never be repeated. I've told my wife that if it ever happens to expect me to dissappear for several days and come back smiling but several thousand dollars lighter in the bank account. As far as all things Dolby are concerned she rolls her eyes and grins. She has an idea about my collection but I guess the day will come sooner or later when she asks me why, exactly, I have 11 vinyl copies of The Golden Age Of Wireless. I suppose that I should have an answer ready for her... ... "of course they are all different - sort of." "This one was pressed in Uzbekistan and has emense value - sort of." I'll get me coat... Thanks for telling a bit about yourself. Congrats on the baby. A Thomas Dolby reunion show with the best bits of all the tours in a small intimate club just down the street from where you live. What a day that would be... I had forgotten all about Caddy Shack for the moment so I dug out the tape and watched it again. What a classic bit of nonsense it is. Rodney Dangerfield is a classic 80's icon. I now have the musical car-horn from his Rolls Royce in the film as my incoming mail signal on my PC! Hahaha! I just got mail! Nice hat! Looks good on you though! :-) Jon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 11:59:03 -0400 From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Re: Alloy: Re: alloy-digest V6 #104--still OT Julie Sweeney wrote: > Also I have to say thank you to Slarv for explaining his name... since I'm > not a Tap > Room-er, I didn't know and have always been curious as to what the hell that > was. This is a good point Julie... actually I think a lot of members who have been here since the beginning might feel as if they're repeating themselves too often, and might be reluctant to join in giving 'bio' information for fear of seeming overbearing... when actually, we have new members coming in all the time, who have no idea who any of us are. It'll get easier when I get the Gallery to the point I'd originally intended (remember those questionnaires, guys? I promise to have it all together soon, my goal is having it up by this October at the very latest) This way, new members can just cruise the Gallery and find out bio information there by clicking on each picture. I've just learned how to do this in Dreamweaver so next stop: completion :) Thanks to all of those who've joined in this time around! Any more bio's out there? any more burning questions for TMDR? New members (or anyone else who's curious) can visit the Alloy FAQ at http://www.robinthurlow.addr.com/AlloyFAQpage.htm and link there to the rudimentary beginnings of the Gallery. Please let me know if you have any trouble connecting through. xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 23:52:07 -0400 From: "Robin" Subject: Alloy: Jon Drukman's Invader Zim episode! We saw it - it was finally on! Tonight's episodes were brilliant. I'm still marvelling at "The Wettening".... and the flying pig sequence was amazing. I only wish GIR's dance club scenes had been longer so we could hear more music :) Jon, it was so cool to see your name in the credits. Congratulations!! Hopefully there will be a collection of music from - and/or inspired by - Invader Zim (I think this *must* happen) Jon, do you have any more music coming up in future episodes? xxxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #106 ***************************
