The sort of Claret in the West Ham kit is the type you often find laced into handkerchiefs or farmers' underpants. also for Robin's benefit...In England, if you spot anybody wearing the Red & White colours of Manchester United it's common tradition to spit in their direction and call them a dirty glory hunter. However it's no good travelling to Manchester to meet one as you won't find any there. Ironically enough, this exact same thing is happening here in our little corner of the world... we are close enough to Milwaukee and due east of Minneapolis, so the crack powers that be noticed that they can get a higher price for their goods here, and also serve a shorter sentence if caught. And of course, this is all gang-based. I will say our police force has been doing a remarkable job... our chief was a cop in Detroit before this... and spent last summer on an "all-out offensive" against the drug influx. When they petitioned the city council for additional funding, to extend this special program they had, the council said, Nah, you don't need that, well, we'll give you half. Ah, excellent choice! It makes me glad we moved out to the sticks last summer... we used to live about five minutes from our "downtown" where much of this is centered. Damien's office is right in the middle of it. It strikes me that when we moved here 9 years ago, this was still pretty much of a cow town, and in the space of nine years, we have gangs, drive-by shootings, last week a playground shooting (gang thing), and a ton of drug traffic. If you could see this place... it is so white-bread middle America, you'd expect to have more of a redneck shit-kicker problem at bar time than a gang/drug problem. Actually, there's that too. Speaking of stress dreams...when I am under duress I will have a spate of these, where giant spiders are falling on me from the ceiling, or leaping at me from the wall; so realistic that I fly out of bed (out of their path) with my heart pounding, and have to turn on the light to make sure they're not there. And Robin, I feel the same way about flying... it is definitely a loss of control thing. I also have developed an interesting anxiety about deep dark water, even though I love to swim, love the beach, etc. Imagine me flying over the Atlantic!!! Feeling chatty today I guess... sorry so OT... The company which hosts my personal website (including the Alloy FAQ, members' gallery, and the TMDR "Images and Interviews" archive) has written to us to let us know they've been hacked, and all their clients' credit card info accessed. The bank that's helping to fund them says they're not a good enough business investment for them if they're not secure enough to protect against such things... so my web site's plug is being pulled this weekend! Not only was my credit card information out there for who knows how long without my knowing, but I've also got to find another web hosting company and set up my pages again. Dave has found one place that looks promising and not too expensive that we're looking into. Incidentally, I didn't know this until today, but if I'd gone with the option of having www.robinthurlow.com instead of www.robinthurlow.addr.com (the cheaper option!) I could have had everything transferred over to a new hosting place with no fuss. Dave went with plain old www.davidthurlow.com and his page will simply be transplanted to the new provider with no fuss. But for me, because I chose to include addr. in my address I've got to republish everything from the ground up. For the information of those who are linked to my pages through their pages, I'm just going to get www.robinthurlow.com and have that be it from now on! I will get back in touch once this is confirmed with the new provider and let you know for certain that this is it. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience & hoefully this won't happen again. Meanwhile, for hopefully only a brief time, my pages are coming down as of this weekend. xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #94 **************************
