Hi, Tim in Lux here [yawn]...... Re Tom Robinson story: Yes I remember hearing something like that a very long time ago. While talking about Tom Robinson he recently did a prog on BBC World Service radio which I heard here in Lux, that was all about the Career of David Bowie and featured some really early Bowie recordings at the BBC. It was an amazing prog and I'm not especially a Bowie fan though I have a soft spot for the Robert Frip and Nile Rogers period collabourations. Re: the new baby for one of the list members .......Good luck ..isnt there a north american native indian tradition of naming babies after the first thing people see after the baby is born ! Hence names like soaring eagle or big cloud etc....I rather like that idea..... other stuff.... Epiglotis - or tonsills? Josh Gabriel at Beatnik any relation to Peter ? why 'Alloy' by the way? OBTDQ: ( I like this abbreviation a lot ! ) anyone know anything about a TMDR track called 'the devil is an Englishman'? Someone asked me about this - but I confess to knowing nothing about it. Re: Inginue : My little Oxford dictionary has it as a noun meaning 'artless girl esp. as stage type'. Sycophantic ending: Good luck to Robin and Dave with your new venture and the house move. Off message / thread thoughts to end...... yesterday saw a 1.3 Gigahertz pentium 4 PC for sale in one of the computer shops here.......only seems like a year but has probably been two since my brother bought the top of the range pentium 2 400Mhz machine. How the technology moves on.......sometimes I wish they could solve diabetes instead. Quick answer - "The Devil is an Englishman" is from the soundtrack to the movie Gothic, which Thomas did. It can be hard to find, but shows up on eBay fairly regularly, and is worth tracking down, IMO. BTW - we finally got a scanner, so if you need scans of the Flat Earth tour book, let me know. (For the curious, no, I wasn't lucky enough to go, but I was lucky enough to find a second-hand copy of FE for sale with the tour book included a couple years ago.) It won't be until after we move though. We're supposed to sign for our house early next week, after it's reinspected to make sure the repairs the previous owners took care of were done properly. Wish us luck. Oh, and tell Dave I was looking at his art the other night - very nice. :) Congrats to the Tommy winners - I had an embarrassment of riches last time, so I abstained to give everyone else a chance. (yeah, right...tell us another one. ;)) Crackers - We just got a MuchMusic feed on our cable about 3 weeks ago and I'm thrilled to bits to finally get it (it's much cooler than MTV, particularly since it actually plays videos). I've only got one question...what's the deal with Ed the Sock? Don't get me wrong, I like his attitude, but he is an unusual choice for a VJ. For the record, my eBay handle is RobynM, and I usually won't bid on a TMDR item if I recognize the name as an Alloyer. It's late and I'm tired, so I'll wrap this up. Greetings and hugs to all who want 'em. :) Robyn M @ Robyn Moore @ http://www.wiccans.net/robyn.html @ You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. - S.C. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 09:43:20 -0500 From: "Ian Gifford" Subject: Alloy: Coming out of the closet as a thespian... [OT] Yes it's true... 2 weeks ago, I went for an audition for a Musical called "Core". Locally written and truly in it's infant stages. I read 3 parts, told a story and sang a song. They were immediately impressed with my guitar work and my voice. They also wrote a special part in the play for me as "Bob Nozzle" hard working minstrel of the inner city! Lotsa lines too and a dialogue with my girlfriend "Nettie Bunt" over whether Neil Young is an Avatar or not By the monday I was accepted into the play, on the Saturday we got the Scripts and had a read-through. On the Monday the music director quit as he didn't like the content of the play, which is very darkly comedic (aka FUNNY AS HELL) and deals with issues like prostitution, Schizophrenia, Demons, and tales of celebrity sex Scandals. So any way... on that Monday I got a call asking for help on a couple of songs. The director and I got together with all of the lyrics and he explained the concepts behind the pieces to which I hashed out some basic progressions and melodic sketches. As it turned out... I have now composed 8 pieces of music for "CORE" and am the Musical Director (as well as an actor). I am so excited that I needed to tell all of you my friends in case any of you might be heading to Canada for Vacations in June... ?? June 20th to 30th will be the run at a 200 capacity theatre (the McManus Theatre), downstairs from a bigger theatre known as "The Grand". THere will most likely be CDs of the music available in the future and all of Jason Rip's plays get published once he has opened them. WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO Now for the obligatory TMDR tie in.... Has thomas scored any Theatre?? or any Straight Musicals?? Has anyone else here done scoring of this capacity??
