So there you have it. I'll definately try to get back for that one. Talking of which, I'll be back in London this Saturday night if any of the crew fancy a beer? Let me know by email today before 7 C.E.T. time because otherwise I wont get the message before I leave. It will be interesting to compare notes with the US soft boy dates. RE: thomas - the cabinet of curiosities - or whatever - why not? I'm still trying to find my TMDR songbook - the one with him wearing a white Judo suit on the front and the faux biography inside 'born in cairo' etc. I'm really miffed I ve mislaid it. Has Anyone else got this Music book - Ive always liked to imagine it was the 'Rosetta Stone' ........to actually see his music on the written page [albeit probably interpreted by some music publishing copy writer ]! I've also wondered whether any other 'song books' of his were made? Message to Will - are the Cardiacs still going ? Bye from Lux where the snow is melting in the rain this overcast grey wednesday morning. I'm about a week behind on my mail, so you may see replies to earlier messages later than this, but oh well. ;) The rarities header reminded me of something I just saw go up on eBay...a subway-size (3X5 foot) promo poster for Aliens. It's similar to the album cover, but has giant caterpillar-type creatures in the streets instead of the two-headed alien in the saucer. I don't have the time or space to bid on it right now (we're buying a house and are busy packing), but thought I'd mention it asap so we could at least try to get it for the collection. Is Thomas a judoka too? That would be cool. Maybe if I meet Thomas some day we can do a little randori and then I can wear a T-shirt that reads "Thomas Dolby threw me tomoe-nage for ippon." Hey why shouldn't he? Everyone else in my Judo club has thrown me with tomoe-nage at least once. I've got this songbook... every now and then it'll turn up on eBay (that's where I got mine) Unfortunately it's not well-suited for direct translation for the inexperienced cellist... the basslines were overly-simplified and the melodies were in treble clef which I can't read!! It does give guitar tabs though... Elaine :) > > I've also wondered whether any other 'song books' of his were made? The one you mention is the only one I know of, though I've always thought there *must* be others, or at least other TMDR sheet music in compilations of songs by various artists. Incidentally, I had wanted to mention before that ALL of those who take the time & effort of sending in images from their collections will receive a permanent mention on the curio's Contributor list, regardless of whether the item has already been recorded (unless you prefer to opt for anonymity) We hope to have a special section featuring the very rarest items... so it would be of great help to have some idea of how many of each thing people have managed to find. Thanks for the heads up Robyn! I've gone to see it and am contemplating what sort of bid I can make on it. Meanwhile I have placed one on the UK magazine ad for "I Scare Myself" which I've never seen before (ads publicizing Thomas are very suitable for the curio!) Incidentally, concerning the recent mention of eBay bidders... please feel free to bid against me (robin.xx) on anything, it's all fair and proper in my book. Just be sure to send in an image for the curio once you've won it :) ! Though the majority of the time I don't bid on things if I recognize it's a fellow Alloy member who's already bid, unless it's an interview/image I don't already have and I'm desperate! xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 12:55:15 -0800 From: "Ian Gifford" Subject: Alloy: I HAVE THE POWER! ( a Beatnik discovery) Well.... after many uneventful attempts to figure out my problem with Beatnik (Will was the guy at Beatnik trying to help me out) I finally have it working. It turns out that I needed to reinstall my Soundcard Drivers and now things are workin like a charm. I am very impressed with the quality of the sound for such a small file size.... methinks it is now time for me to start doing some remixes ;) WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO I AM SONIFIED........ I'm very excited about this new 'launch' of new life in our family. This will be my husband's first child. On a Dolby note, I finally figured out what the word 'ingenue' means. It means a young french actress. This word is mentioned in the song 'Living in a Suitcase' from the Astronauts and Heretics album. I'll tell ya, some of the terms that Dolby uses in his song I haven't a clue of what they mean. It's like a treasure hunt to find out what some of these terms mean that he uses. Amazing!!!! Kate;-) Soon to be mother of three wonderful children. ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #74 **************************
