There are a couple of final comments that I would like to make mainly for the benefit of other Alloy members such as Damien. I stand by every word that I wrote but i it is very important to remember all this in context. Paolo said that he knew that the Fever Pitch material had been available and as Robin had made it COMPLETELY clear that Thomas wished that it would not ne distributed further by anyone by any means he must have known that. He actually stated just that in his posting but still asked Alloy members to go against Thomas's wishes. That is the kind of behavior that kills the trust that Thomas has furnished us with and I will not remain silent! When I joined this list I lurked for long enough to realise that we have something a bit special going on here and for the first time in 10 or more years within the internet-ether I felt that I was amongst people that had a mutual understanding and respect that was really clear. The Tap Room was different, Alloy is more 'stable' (for want of a better word) and has a trust that needs careful attention to preserve it. When it comes down to it I stand by what I wrote to Paolo and my only regret is that I said what I said publicly and not to him alone. I have subsequently written to Paolo explaining why I wrote what I did and that it is now history not to be repeated. I hope that in future when we have new members that don't observe our protocol they are corrected early but maybe in a manner that doesn't create such a fuss. I certainly won't be posting such comment again publicly... We have sometimes volatile and extreme discussion about myriad topics in Alloy and that's why I enjoy being a member so much. All feedback is good and we are big enough boys and girls to ride the punches... Robins War Child comments were particularly pertinent. To those of you who sucked up Thomas's gift to us in true Napter-fashion without donating - shame on you! This is the kind of behaviour that can make the world such a depressing place somtimes these days. Let's not forget why we are all here. There are other places where artists work, wishes and rights can be abused and they are called Napster et al. Best wishes, Jon (wishing the Nokia Communicator had a bigger sun-screen resistant keyboard from hell!!!) Sorry Crackers for abusing your interlectual property from hell!!! Damn! I did it again (from hell!!!) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 07:53:18 -0300 From: "PAULO GONZALEZ" Subject: Alloy: KING CRIMSON Robert Fripp, leader of the progressive rock band King Crimson sells CDs through his official site DGM Global Mobile. Apart from King Crimson's comercial releases from time to time, he sells through the page Collector's Club, King Crimson CDs which won't be released commercially. Of course, they can only be bought by the club's members. http://www.disciplineglobalmobile.com/news/club.htm I think it works like this: members pay around 90$ US dollars a year (I'm not sure about the sum) and then receive during that year 6 King Crimson CD's. They consist of live shows recorded during the band's long carrear (from 1969 to today). The sound quality of some of them is excellent (studio-like DDD), but the 70's CDs are awful. But Fripp said that the members of the club don't mind the sound quality, because the recordings are unique and hystorical. The sound of some CDs is bad, full of HISS, recorded by a small tape recorder in the middle of the audience, but the performances are outstanding. Up until now they have already released 15 CDs through the Club in 3 years (apart from the commercial 18 CD discography in the normal shops). I'm wondering if something like this could be done here. Robin who has personal contact to Mr. Thomas Dolby, could discuss with him and study if there is a chance, a way to turn this suggestion possible through this list or through the Flat Earth Society. I don't know how many members the Crimson's Collector's Club has. I don't know how much money is needed to press CD's. I also don't know if there are many people here, to make this idea viable. Thomas would press the CD's and would sell them to us through the site. The material probably would have to be different from the one which belongs to EMI. But I think he could mainly release COMPLETE LIVE RECORDINGS from all the tours he had done: WIRELESS, FLAT EARTH, ALIENS, and ASTRONAUTS. I don't know if he has the rights to release obscure B-Sides or even outtakes, alternative versions, rehearsals of known songs, but that would be really interesting. A CD with the complete FEVER PITCH soundtrack would be great too! This would not prevent him from releasing a comercial pop album if he wanted too. That's what happens with King Crimson. Now EMI records now have to pay them a quarter of a million pounds plus costs. Anyone who set up and then sold a record label to a major player like EMI should review how they have been treated in the light of this case. A victory for the founders of small record labels which were bought by EMI and then denied royalty payments. It'll give me time to get toned up since I haven't been able to have very good workouts since my bout with pneumonia four months ago. Asthma keeps kicking in, very annoyingly. Muscle tone has faded. But with this in mind, maybe a few coats of paint wouldn't be such a bad idea. Speaking of body art, Dave and I are looking into getting some tattoo equipment and becoming licensed. And if we accomplish this... free tattoos for everyone at Alloy :) I'm looking forward to getting to practice managing ink flow etc. One of the techniques for training yourself to the curves and textures of working on the human body is to practice on Barbie dolls, with their thin coating of rubberized "skin". Imagine the fun. xxxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 14:11:33 -0500 From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Alloy: Tommy Awards - cast your votes!! A reminder that there's just ONE WEEK TO GO before the polls close in the official Tommy Awards @ the FES. Please go over to http://www.thomasdolby.com , follow the lnks, and cast your votes!! To those who may be worried about not knowing some of the categories, don't feel as if you're not qualified to participate. You're still *very* likely to win even if you leave some blanks or take wild guesses. And don't feel self-conscious about trying to guess Thomas' "Favorites" in part 2 of the Tommies. He's already given his list of answers to the official Tabulator, and so will not be looking at your guesses. (He *will* be sending out prizes to those twelve people who come closest however!) So please have fun and head over to the FES to participate. Best of luck everyone, Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 00:54:08 -0000 From: "Diva" Subject: Re: Alloy: RE: Alloy-Tell Dave to keep painting Robin foolishly volunteered: >Speaking of body art, Dave and I are looking into getting some tattoo >equipment and becoming licensed. Or - for the truly dedicated - a portrait of Thomas...but from which era? This definitely should have been a Tommy category! Votes please on the back of an email.... diva@tn.prestel.co.uk ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #61 **************************
